- Q: There are so many types of sofa. I'd like to get some suggestions....
- only frm personal experience.... if you purchase a cheap sofa, you will get a cheap sofa. It will not last , it will fall apart and you will need a new one twice as soon. Look hard, and long. go classic. something that will not scream 2006. it will be better . you won't hate it in 6 months. get the BEST you can afford, whatever that amount might be. unless you only plan on keeping it for very short period of time... then go inexpensive
- Q: do cats prefer to claw certain types of material?i'd really like leather sofas but i'm afraid of my cat clawing them. he doesn't claw my fabric sofas at the moment. he seems to like digging his claws into a rug that i have, which has quite a rough surface.any advice would be great. thanks
- There's really no telling. Each cat is different, and your cat may surprise you. Best way to make everyone happy: Buy yourself the sofa you want, buy your cat a nice scratching post, and invest some time and energy into training. My husband's cat has DESTROYED his fabric desk chair. So when I moved my leather desk chair in, I covered it (except the seat and inside back) with pieces of scotch tape, sticky side out. I left it there as long as necessary for her to get the picture she is NOT WELCOME applying her claws to that furniture. Just do make sure you provide an alternative scratching location that you approve of, since cats NEED to scratch their claws.

- get every thing out of cupboard , throw away sofa covers if they are no good, wipe out the cupboard with a hot cloth soapy water then wipe dry. soak the plates in very hot water, when water has cooled a little give them a good scrub with a scourer. Even give oven ware a clean if needed, if you have plastic stuff best to buy new ones take it with you when you move again Then arrange plates in one pile oven ware in another in cupboard. - Good ol' WalMart has futons for about that price range. But a word of advice: If it is going to get frequent use, get a wooden one, not a metal one. I bought the metal one, and the base only lasted about a year because prolonged sitting and sleeping on it bent the rods under the mattress. It got so uncomfortable I had to toss it and got a twin bed instead. I put a board about 2 feet wide by 6 feet long inside one end of the futon mattress so it could become a backrest, then piled a bunch of throw pillows on it so I could use it as a sofa too. Just dump the throw pillows on the floor, and it's an instant bed.
- Q: I'm thinking of replacing an old upholstered couch with a microfiber sofa. I have a teenager and a (non-shedding) dog and in the past I've had my furniture and rugs professionally steam cleaned as needed. Does anyone know if microfiber will hold up to a high-traffic household where the muddy-footed dog sneaks on the furniture? In your experience is washable microfiber really washable or will it look terrible the first time I clean it?
- I have a white microfiber sofa that cost $5,000. (yes white. yes $5,000). Also, two dogs and a cat. It's washable if you get a steam cleaner. The salespeople imply that you can just use a damp sponge to remove stains. This is no more or less true than any other fabric. They also tell you to not use a steam cleaner because it ruins the grain or something. All I can say is it ain't a miracle fabric. It gets dirty and then, over time, it gets really dirty, just like all furniture, and it needs to be cleaned. Given the cost I lived in hell with my couch for several years. My husband purchased it and I was on pins and needles just sitting on the darn thing. Well, the dog ate some bacon grease and I came home from work to bacon vomit all over the couch. Called a professional a few days later and he said it was too late, I should have called him immediately. That's when I just steamed it myself and it's perfectly fine and I don't worry about it anymore. Also, I have micro fiber footstools and I take the covers off and throw them in the wash. No problem. However, it's been five years and it all looks a little worn because it is worn. Don't pay more because you think it's indestructible. Buy it because it looks nice or you like the way it feels. In the end, it's just another fabric.
- Q: Grand-kids have had accidents while sleeping on the sofa bed and left urine stains on the mattress.
- You can steam clean mattresses with a carpet cleaner machine. Just clean both sides and set mattress on edge to dry for a couple of days. Make sure it is completely dry before replacing it to the sofa bed.

- ~ we have 4 dogs. Our sofa is denim. I decide on denim because I knew how to clean it lol. The sofa is 6 years old. And now just looks like a faded pair of jeans. Fur vacuums easily off. My Hubby has a leather chair also bought the same year, and well the scratches give it a very used look lets say.
