- Q: I have a large family room - 25 x 16 feet. I currently have a 9x12 rug on one side and want to add another on the other side of the room. The rug that works best with my existing rug only comes in 5'8x9 or 8'8x10. The first seems a little small and the second a little big. Can you have two large rugs in one room or does that overpower the room? I would only have about 14 between the two rugs if I went with the larger rug. It seems like it would look like a little landing strip. But I don't want the small one to look like a postage stamp. What to do?
- It depends on what you are going to put on it. You could turn the other rug so they won't be so close together.
- Q: I recently lost a large wall rug in my house due to a fire. The only information I have for it is the following: My grandmother purchased it from a traveling salesman in Canada sometime between 1967-1971. The dimensions of the rug are approx. 6ft long by 3-4 ft tall. It has a picture of polar bears on icebergs. The edging was red yarn-like fringes.I think that this rug is worth something but I can't find anything like it. I need to put a value on it for insurance purposes so I want to find out its true value and need documentation to prove that that rug, or one close to it, is worth a certain amount of money. My other grandmother had a similarly sized rug, possibly sold by the same guy, but it had a bullfighter and bull on it. Any help on this matter is greatly appreciated.
- I'm not incredibly familiar with rugs, but I can try to give some help. After searching around a little bit, it seems that most of the rugs fitting this description are between $200-400, but rugs also run much higher in price. If it is a hand-made rug of that size made by a fine rug-maker, you could be talking $1000 dollars or more. I can't say too much more, since I'm in no way qualified to appraise a rug, since I don't know enough about them, but I included some links in the sources that might help you price your rug. - You must not have gotten all the water and soap out. That is the most important part of the steam cleaning process. If you put down too much soap and didn't get it out of the carpet, you are going to have some issues. Water and soap go down first, then water, then only the suction to pull out the soap and water.
- Q: my carpet color right now is gray, and i wanna change it to red. i was figuring maybe i can bleach it first and let that dry before i go with my final color. do you think this'll work?
- i doubt that will work....u can use carpet dyes but....b warned.....any time u spill any chemical into ur car in the future it will bleed........ u can also look online and find new carpet for the car........last time i looked most car floor carpet cost about 200-300.....which isn't that bad for brand new carpet in the color u want.....
- Q: I have this expensive shag rug from pottery barn, and my two cats have peed on it. I couldn't tell because the shag is so fluffy but when i moved it there pee had stained my wood floor. I love this carpet, and don't want to throw it out. Does anyone know how I can clean a shag rug from cat pee? - Without knowing what the rug is made of, I'm not sure of what to tell you exactly. If you think you could wash it in the washing machine, try that. If your washer isn't big enough, maybe a triple load washer at the laundromat will work. If it's too big for the washer you could take it to the carwash and use the clips on the wall of the carwash stall to hang the rug on. Spray the rug with the soapy water, making sure to rinse well. Take it home (take some large trash bags with you to avoid getting your car soggy) and let it dry in the sun, perhaps over your fence.

- It's unfortunate that you're in that situation but I commend you for wanting to make your living environment a cleaner place. I think you're already aware that having a carpet cleaning machine would be much better...but try using a scrub brush with oxy-clean solution....or using white vinegar and baking soda solution. (Vinegar disinfects and may help to eliminate the urine odor). You could try this combination first....and then go over it using the oxy-clean solution to clean more. After carpet is dried, regular sprinkling of baking soda all over it and letting it sit, then vacuuming it up will help to take out some odor, too. (But if pets have been regularly going on the carpet, there are stains all the way down to the floorboard and carpet is ruined, really). Just do the best you can in this situation, okay? See if you can stress the importance of the pets being able to go outside to do their business. Pet stores sell products that are like pet grass mats where they can go on instead of having accidents on carpets. (Check a pet store online and see if your parents would get those). Pet stores also sell cleaning products, too, if they want to inquire about having some on hand for the future.

- Q: I'd like to know how REAL fur coats, bear skin rugs, etc. are made (by hand not industrial process) as I don't believe its tanning like in leather as it requires the fur to be stripped. So there is no more efficient way to lay the carpet?
- carpet area = (18*20)/9 = 40 sq yards and if an exact size was available, would cost $1140 but since you HAVE to buy a roll 12ft x 100 ft , the carpet will cost you $3800, as you have calculated
