- Q: Hello, My dog chewed my carpet in my apartment in a few places. I dont think it needs completely replaced but I want to pass the inspection when I move. And, if it were my carpet your pet ruined/damaged, I'd likely ask for it to be replaced- same condition as when you moved in- with normal wear and tear. - Q: My cat has torn up a couple of sections of the carpet in my apartment. I went to Lowe's hardware and they have the carpet I need in stock. However, I keep getting the runaround about what I need and what I need to know to get what I need. I was told that I need to find out how my carpets are installed. I don't want to ask the apartment people because they will charge me a ridiculous amount of money to fix the situation. I have Shag carpeting in my apartment. I do not know how it's laid onto the floor. Is there a way that I can find that out? Also, is there anything else that I need to know? - Q: I have this large red wings rug and I would like to hang it on the wall. It is 49.5 by 69.75 and I am having a hard time figuring out what to do with it.
- Rugs and quilts are often hung on walls by stitching a sleeve onto the back, you then slip a dowel or rod behind it and hang it from that. Sleeves are a good way to hang this type of item because it supports the weight evenly and the piece won't sag. When I hang quilts I make a muslin sleeve about four inches wide the length of the quilt. I then hand stitch it to the top back of the quilt. A rug will be heavier, so you may need heavier fabric than muslin, maybe canvas, and you might want to use heavy duty or even buttonhole thread. I try to keep my stitches from going through to the front of the quilt, and I always stitch carefully so I can remove the stitching and sleeve without damaging the quilt. Good luck!

- Regular carpet adhesive that you trowel on will work. But It ll tear the wall all to Heck when you go to remove the carpet. Maybe some carpet tackless that you can nail to the top and let the carpet hang straight down? Other than that just some finish nails.. GL
- Q: I am having such a hard time finding a rug for my small studio apartment! I have white walls, an off-white/very light creme colored modern leather couch, a glass coffee table (smart coffee table-cb2) and a dark wood tv console. I just purchased a small dining table which is basically next to my tv console and it is also dark wood. I wanted to keep the entire room light but after an impulsive buy, I realize that the dining table definitely darked the room by a lot. Would using a white area rug clash with the off-white couch? I was also thinking of a light taupe colored rug that I think might match better but I want a color as light as possible. Would white be bad, aside from difficulties in maintenance?Last question, in a small room, would a dark wood tv console, dark wood dining table and a dark wood entryway console table be too much dark wood?Thanks a lot!
- You need some rugs in colors that tie the areas together but bring interest into the room. Plain whites or creams will only bland out the room areas. Choose a colorful pattern under the dining area and another in similar but different patterns for the living area. Wood colors are considered neutrals so they are not an issue. Your choices of too many whites and lights are. Colorful patterned rugs will add focus and interest to your areas and make your furniture choices stand out.. Think color, not bland.

- I did a design on an outdoor sisal type rug and it came out really nice. I used spray paint and sealed it with polyurethane. You can get the templates at a craft store or make one yourself. There might be a problem if there is a high pile on the carpet. The design might not have clean edges. You could try one section of it on the back of the rug. Or get a carpet remanent with a pile like you have on your white carpet to try. If the design does not have clear edges you might be able to touch it up with a tiny paintbrush. I don't think a dye (like Rit Dye) would work. It would run and make a mess. I think you would have to stick to a surface treatment only-like spray paint.
