Would there be a hazard with using a multi core (speaker) wire for the grounding, or should we do the wiring with a single core wire.: No professional electrician would ever use speaker wire to wire a house.

Q: Hi,I'm looking to change the outlets and the switch and light fixture in a bedroom of a home built in 1948. The outlets are original to the home I think. Will I have to fish ground wire throught to the panel box for my new receptacles? Or just install new 2 slot outlets?Why the different looking wires?Is the older wire copper with a silver colored coating to indicate being neutral or is this an old aluminum wire? The hot wire is red plastic coated and looks modern to me.: In '48 your house won't have a ground wire as you found out. If it is wired with BX cable ( metal clad) you can see in the basement or crawl space, the ground is actually taken to the outlet by the metallic casing. Then all you would have to do is get a bag of ground wires with screws already crimped on them at Home Depot called Greenies. You screw them into one of the holes inside the box and attach the other end to the ground screw on the switch or outlet. The red casing you are describing actually sounds like red electrical tape wrapped around deteriorating wire in the box as the other wire looks raggy. The wire you see that looks aluminum MAY be aluminum someone added in the '70's when al wire was used, but BOTH would be replaced and there would have been a ground wire. I don't know why it looks silver, but I have seen old wiring like that and it is usually copper. If you see the BX cable you are good adding the ground wire, if it is a silvery looking cloth casing, then install new NON-grounded receptacles.

Increasing the diameter could compensate for a material with higher resistivity. So the answer is yes.

Q: How could you relate greater wire length resulting in greater resistivity to the context of home: Greater wire length will certainly give you a higher resistance. Since heat is measured in watts, and watts (W) =I^2R, where I=Current and R= resistance, then if you double the resistance of a wire (by making it twice as long) you also double the ammount of watts lost in the wire. Since watts equates to heat, this ammount of heat will make the wire hotter. If you use an extension lead, and wind it round a drum, it can get very hot indeed.

Q: i have a 1995 chevy S10 blazer and i noticed that it has 5? speakers in the door and 6x9 in the back i started looking and i found that it has 4x6 in the dash with cardboard over it but it don't have speaker wire ran for it i think its going to be difficult running wire for it but what gauge of wire should i use? and should i run the speaker wire to the head unit how would i hook the speaker wire to the aftermarket head unit or should i run it to the 6x9 or 5? i already have a pair of 4x6's ready to be installed in it as soon as i find out how to do it and what size of speaker wire it is im going to be doing it by myself: It sounds like your head-unit's speaker output is undesirable. I recommend getting a sparkling head-unit. additionally, the wiring isn't undesirable, by using fact if it have been (working example a grounding concern interior the wiring) the fuse(s) for the radio might have blown and the radio would not artwork.

Q: Also what are FORD RACING 9MM SPARK PLUG WIRES i would be putting these on my Bronco....what do they do....do i need them?: Spark plug wires. The Ford 9mm wires are bigger then the normal 7mm ( I think ) wires. And when you have bigger then normal wires, the wire separaters that hold the wires on the valve covers need to also be bigger, hence the wire looms. No, you don't need the larger wires until you add to the ignition system and increase it's electrical capacity. But they do look better. Probably can get regular size wires in the Ford blue, too.

Q: a difference of 25 feet with 16 gague wire: You are not going to notice any difference at all at the length of 25 feet. If you are going to have 100 feet length then I would advice using a 14 gauge wire. It is not going to have any affect on your amp. Only the speaker resistance will have an affect on your power amplifier. Hope this will help you out.
