- You can also use the whole t-shirt and make them several layers thick, sewing them together much like a quilt and making a rug that way. But I like the texture of a woven or knitted or crocheted rug, especially when it is made of rags. How many you need depends on many things, such as the size of the rug, and how thin you cut the strips. You will need MUCH more than you think... I know! Collect as many as you can from friends and neighbours and search the second-hand shops for them as well.

- Find a good carpet cleaner. ;) Depends on the color of the carpet, really. Find a mild cleaner -- or even laundry soap, if you aren't sure what cleaners to use -- and put a bit on the carpet. Get a toothbrush or something that can really get in the carpet and scrub as hard as you can. Rinse w/hot water, blow dry it and see how it looks. Oddly enough, I just finished scrubbing hot sauce out of a white area rug thanks to my kid. ha!

- Q: So I spilled red juice on my carpet last night and thought it would be a good idea to clean it up using bleach and clear soda. Needless to say the bleach kind of messed up the carpet. - My neighbor did that. She bought a box of 94 Crayola crayons and experiment with them until she found a color that matched. She then colored in the spot on the carpet. You have to redo every now and then but it worked. Next time you spill something on the carpet, try using table salt. Just pour it on, let it absorb the wet spot and most of the color will come up. Do not wipe it up just vacuum it up, while it's wet. If the stain is still there do it again. I had to do mine about 3 times but it is hardly noticeable now. My carpet is light tan and the spot was berry red. The spot now is a very, very, pale pink and gets lighter every time I clean it. There is also a cleaner call Krud be gone and Goo gone that may work.

- Do both. Vacuum the rugs during the week to pick up particles and hair, and then throw them in the wash on occasion to make sure they stay fresh. I would also spray them lightly with Lysol a few times a week to keep mold and fungus at bay.
