- Q: i want to re carpet my bedrooms, where could i find carpet besides a carpet shop?
- Cassy, if you want new carpet then you will have to go to a carpet store. Some of the larger companies have end of line run out sales for carpets that they are replacing with a new pattern or colour so it's always worth asking, you might get last years carpet at a bargain. You could also look at some auction houses for carpet bargains. If you are okay with second hand carpet then have a look at some of the trader newspapers, we have trading post here in Melbourne and they are online too, Australia wide I think on the net. Some people will sell their old carpet when replacing it so check around. Also, you could contact some carpet installers because they are always ripping out old carpet when laying down new stuff. Ask them what they do with the carpet they are getting rid of. They might onsell it somewhere if it's in good shape. You can always jump on line and google 'second hand carpet'. I got a few hits when I did this so you might find something in your area.
- Q: I have had a rug over top of a heat vent for a while, but I wanted to make sure it is safe.
- It depends upon what kind of heat vent you have. If it is a floor furnace, it would get hot enough that it could start a fire. If it is a forced air heating duct, the rug would prevent the air from coming into the room, but the temperature of the air coming out isn't high enough to cause a problem. If it is a forced air heating duct, you could pull the register out of the floor, cut a hole in the rug the same size as the duct boot and slip the register back into the hole so you would have the warm air coming into the room.
- Q: I got a rug burn on my toe Monday and not quite sure how to treat it. When I looked up how to treat rug burns, every site said that they were like 1st degree burns or a sunburn and should be pretty much treated the same way. However mine is open and for the first few days, was leaking pus and a clear liquid. It hasn't healed up yet and I have been treating it as a cut. - You cannot get a third degree rug burn. Third degree burns are full thickness: all the layers of skin and into the muscle is burned. You have a 1st degree burn. An open burn, yes, but still first degree. You scraped off a layer or two of skin, which is why it was leaking plasma. Stop using peroxide as that is often too harsh and causes more damage as it will kill the regenerating cells. Stick with a simple antibacterial cream or ointment and bandage it. If band-aids won't say on, buy some gauze pads and medical tape.

- If it only happened twice and is now not a problem it may have been a passing medical concern - upset stomach/nerves, whatever. If it is a continuing concern, it too, may be a medical concern. The cat may have a urinary tract infection. These are very painful for the cat and need attention from your vet yesterday. If the cat comes home with a clean bill of health and continues to use the carpet it may be an emotional problem. The cat box may not be to her liking (even if she previously used it without incident). Have you changed the type of litter? Have you added a top to the box that wasn't previously there? Is there something sitting next to the box that wasn't there before? Have you changed the location of the box? Not that she would forget where the box is, but that she doesn't like the type/amount of privacy available. Our cat was afraid of the new cat. The cats had decided among themselves that one would be upstairs and one would be downstairs. Well, the potty box was downstairs. The downstairs cat lorded it over the upstairs cat. The upstairs cat now has her own box (which everyone uses now) upstairs. No more capet issues.

- sure!. also you can use house carpet also. but before you put carpet down, unhook the battery, open both doors, clean the floor off and brush paint the floor with rust-olem paint, let it dry good, then put the carpet down. the paint will protect the floor board.
