- Q: The floor of my room is carpet, but is there are need to get a rug? I just want it for decoration. My bed is in the middle of my room, so where should I put the rug? And how often do I need to wash it? (I would normally vacuum my room once a week.)
- It really depends. I don't know what color the rug is, or the carpet. According to color, sometimes it could look great, others, not so great. If the rug is a fuzzy one, then probably no. If it's pretty flat, and it goes with the carpet color, then yes. It really depends. Just imagine it sitting in your room. If you like it, buy it. If you don't, you should hold off. You could get it to see how it looks, and if you don't like it, just return it.
- Q: my daughter knocked the iron of the ironing board and has burnt the carpet. the colour of the carpet is a biscuit colour . please can any one help any ideas ?????
- I hope no one was hurt by the hot iron. As others have mentioned, your options are somewhat limited, with regards to a burn. Synthetic carpets tend to not only 'burn' but also melt... so its not likely that it can be shaved off...the damage will be too deep. If you have a section of this carpet in a closet, then your best approach is to have someone use that piece to 'patch' the burnt portion. The process isnt terribly difficult, but it does take some skill, and a seaming iron. Any carpet fitter that has done seams, or patterns, could do this for you. Basically, a piece (larger than the burn) will be cut out of the closet portion, then lay it over the burn (being careful to line up the fiber/weave direction), cut through both pieces of carpet with a straight edge, and very sharp knife, apply hot melt carpet tape to the edges of the hole (to the underside of the carpet, hehe), and finally, insert the patch, and heat the seams with the iron. Someone who has had practice at this can make an almost invisible patch. Another idea might be to simply toss a decorative throw rug over the burn for the time being, or rearrange the furniture, hehehe. About the only other thing to be done would be to replace the entire carpet in the room, and if the carpet is very old or worn, then that might be a good idea anyway.... it is difficult to get a good patch on worn carpet. - Q: I saw a rug made out of t-shirts and thought it would be fun to try. I've heard it's pretty easy but I don't know if anyone has a good website or special tricks or helpful hints. Thanks anyone that can help! Also how many t-shirt would I need for what size rug? Thanks.
- You can also use the whole t-shirt and make them several layers thick, sewing them together much like a quilt and making a rug that way. But I like the texture of a woven or knitted or crocheted rug, especially when it is made of rags. How many you need depends on many things, such as the size of the rug, and how thin you cut the strips. You will need MUCH more than you think... I know! Collect as many as you can from friends and neighbours and search the second-hand shops for them as well.

- You can consider buying a chocolate brown carpet remnant from a carpeting outlet and painting your own dots. An 8' x 10' remnant could be had for as little as $50, plus whatever fabric paint you use for the circles. TX Griff

- Find a good carpet cleaner. ;) Depends on the color of the carpet, really. Find a mild cleaner -- or even laundry soap, if you aren't sure what cleaners to use -- and put a bit on the carpet. Get a toothbrush or something that can really get in the carpet and scrub as hard as you can. Rinse w/hot water, blow dry it and see how it looks. Oddly enough, I just finished scrubbing hot sauce out of a white area rug thanks to my kid. ha!

- Or... if it's synthetic, take it out onto the driveway hose it down, put some soap on it and brush it in lightly, then rinse it with the hose. My family used to put an old shower curtain down under the high chair. Works wonders. Good luck.

- Q: I have been instructed by my HOA to quot;Carpet all floorsquot; as I laid a vinyl plank and it's against HOA rules. Could I get away with laying carpet tiles over this? I have pets and I believe carpet tiles will work better as I can replace a tile if it becomes damaged.
- Nearly. Carpet tiles are a bit denser and transmit sound better than conventional carpet. As you point out however, it is extremely convenient should you experience any damage. And having pets, damage is almost a certainty (I speak whereof I know: cats). Put the tiles on almost any pad and I don't think there's going to be a quantifiable difference between tiles and roll. The extra layer should do a fine job of silencing your place. This is an excellent reason to live anywhere there isn't an HOA. I say, it's my effing place, not the HOA's.

- Take to the laundry mat and wash in one of those tumble washers on cold or warm water setting. Dry in dryer but not on the hottest setting. If you dry on the hottest setting in the dryer the rubber backing could melt.
- Q: I have a large area rug on top of a wall to wall carpet. It has furniture on it but it still keeps wrinkling up. Why? How can I stop this?
- The rug moves because there is insufficient friction between the rug and floor. The force of walking has enough force to make it move ( we had similar issue with our rugs) You can purchase the grippers that you lay between the floor and rug. No glue tape or other adhesive involved. you can buy it at bed bathroom and beyond, home depot (i think) Good luck
