Q: The carpet in my apartment was old to begin with and then I got my dog a few months ago and we have poty training issues. Now my carpet and whole place smells. I bought a carpet cleaner and have tried all sorts of produts but nothing seems to work. I don't really want to have them done professionaly done because of the dog. Help?
Not much you can do really. Usually the smell is trapped in the padding and not the carpet. Only real solution I know is to tear it out and replace the padding and carpet. I would also contact a pro service (can usually get 3 rooms for $100). The equipment they use may be better than equipment for home use. Check the guarantee the company offers. Make sure they guarantee your satisfaction with the results. Just don't expect miracles...there is only so much they can do with smells in carpet pad.
Q: The bed set I want is dark purple with a black zebra design on it, and most the things in my room are purple or turning purple. My walls are tan and will have to stay that way for awhile. So what color would look good with my bedset and room, I dont really want like a zebra patterned rug, but if you think it would look good tell me! Thanks!
The zebra rug would only look good if it matched exactly to your bed set. But since your gonna have a lot of purple in your room (from your stuff) i suggest a black rug, i know it sounds kind of plain and simple but i dont see how any other color would go besides purple. But it sounds cute!(:
Q: We're moving into an 850-sqft place with all hardwood floors. We are thinking about putting in either rugs or carpet for the WHOLE PLACE (except bathroom and kitchen) because we have a 1 year old who could really use the extra cushion. Which is more cost-efficient? Where can I get quality rugs/carpet at a bargain?

Q: I just purchased an indoor-outdoor rug for my kitchen. I thought maybe it would wear better and not show every little spill or dirt.I had a black rug in there before and it showed everything. My problem is that I can't seem to get the wrinkles out of it.Down the sides of it are ripples and they won't go away. Therefore it won't lie flat on the floor and I'm afraid someone might trip ovr it and get hurt.
you could stretch it out and tack it down with some small nails?
Q: How to deal with the cigarette ash on the carpet?
Since it has been unable to use the vacuum cleaner, then you partially wet the carpet with a strong detergent to take a small brush carefully brush it.
Q: There's a shag rug that has been in my basement for 15 years. Now, my basement is unfinished and is a bit damp in the summer but only on the walls. The rug itself is in pretty good shape but it does smell a tad bit damp and gross haha, and the bottom is a little shredded. Is there a way to clean it up so I can use it in my bedroom upstairs?
Professional or a commercial carpet cleaner will often do this type of cleaning and rug repair as a side business They will have the knowledge ir the rug can be cleaned and the shredded part fix. Dry cleaners wont have the experience about the age and condition of the rug will hold up to a machine wash or cleaning. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar. GL
Q: I've never heard of carpet tile. How do you install them and what are the advantages/disadvantages compared to a roll of carpet? Are the tiles cheaper? Easier?
The carpet tiles are easier to install. They have the advantage that if you make a spot on one, you can lift it up and replace it. Great if you have kids or pets. They just snap together from what I've seen. Haven't priced them, though, so I can't tell about that.
Q: So, I m moving to an apartment that has totally outdated carpet. I want to change it, but obviously I can t being that it is an apartment I m renting. Are there any other options, other than buying a giant rug? Also, what are carpet tiles? I ve heard that they re cheaper than actual carpet, but do they require installation? Are they permanent? DIY people, help!!
You will not be happy about how these look if you put them over existing carpet and they are typically NOT cheaper than regular carpet. Your best bet is probably just big area rugs on top of existing carpet to define areas of use like living area, dining area, etc.
Q: I have a rug that my sister gave me as a gift. The colors are perfect for my home and it's the perfect size for where I need it. But there's a problem - it's in a high traffic area (landing on the stairs) and it won't stay put. It creases in the center and gets pushed up against the wall as the traffic goes by - causes safety hazard because now we're tripping all over it, and i'm getting so tired of bending down to straighten it. I know it probably wasn't an expensive rug, but I would hate to throw it out. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can get it to stay on the carpet? I was thinking about gluing some thing on the bottom corners to weight it down.... maybe that's a crazy idea. I was also thinking maybe there's a way to attach it to the carpet, like a safety pin.... probably crazy too because then i'd just end up with holes in my carpet. Maybe someone more creative has an idea or knows of a cost effecient product that could help me.
The thing I did when I had this problem, was used double sided tape. Get the kind that is about 2-3 wide and run a strip of that all along the sides of your throw rug. Hopefully, that will work. You should be able to find that at a store such as Menard's. There are these rubber type runners that also work to hold rugs in place. But I'm not sure they work on carpet. I know they work well on vinyl flooring and tile. If worst comes to worst, and you really don't want to move this rug to a different area, I suppose you could use a staple gun to staple it down. You would have to use a butter knife to remove the staples if you wanted to ever move it. Good luck, sounds like it's irritating right now.
