- Anytime you replace your water pump. You should replace the thermostat and gasket. Also check the upper and lower radiator hoses to see if either one of them are collapsed.It wouldn't hurt to replace the radiator cap.

- If your timing belt is old and wearing out, it should be replaced. This is the BEST time to replace the water pump, since the belt has to come off to change the pump. You will be saving a bit of money in the time required to make the repairs. While it is being done, have the mechanic check the bottom of the radiator.
