Q: My parents just bought new tires and they were aired up to 28, the amount listed on the car door. My husband had a fit when he checked them after they got home and he aired them on up to 45, the amount listed on the tire sidewall. Which is correct? The tires were bought at a national tire seller, so I assume they know what they're doing but all 4 were right at 28, not 45 as listed on the tire. Is anyone out there a tire expert and know how much air should be in a tire?
The tire pressures on the decal in the vehicle door jamb is the correct value to follow. The pressures that are molded into the sidewall of the tire are generally the maximum air pressure rating that the tire can safely handle without the tire "blowing apart". The tire pressures in the door jamb decals allow the vehicle to have a proper amount of tire tread to be in contact with the road for the weight and payload of the vehicle to safely grip the road around turns, acceleration, and braking. If the tires are over inflated, (although it reduces rolling resistance and improves fuel economy), tires will wear improperly, tire traction is reduced (causing slipping when gripping is desired --ie. being stuck in mud, sand, slipping while braking on wet or snow covered roads, etc), ride comfort is reduced and more road imperfections are felt from the road and through the vehicle's suspension. Overall, follow the door jamb decals unless the door jamb decal has a higher number than what is rated on the tire... for your safety and mine. Best of luck and happy motoring
Q: I‘ve looked at tire rack but wondering about a local private owned tire shop. What brand are good tires ? ( Michelin, Yokohama, bridge stone, etc.) For a family vehicle.
There a many good tire brands. But quality of a tire is much more based on the model of tire, not simply the brand. Each tire manufacturer makes dozens of tire models, varying in both quality and performance rating. Your options with be based on your vehicle and your needed size. Buy online, from tirerack, if you are not concerned about after care costs (rotations, balancing, flat repair, etc.) Otherwise, find a local tire seller if the after care is a concern.
Q: I hear that you‘re not supposed to air up a tire when It‘s cold so what do you do If a tire needs air and It‘s cold out?
Don't know where you heard that from. You determine the air pressure in your tires most accurately when the tire is cold and has not had much friction. Pressures are usually pretty close unless you are in a situation like a very hot day in Arizona , you have been driving for a long time on a black curvy road that is in the direct sun. Then you will get a reading substancially higher. If you need air, just add it. if you need to add air too often, you have a puncture probably if it never did that before. Air does escape a little bit, but not much unless the tire has cracks in the sidewall. Keep concious of the air in tires low air up front can cause understeer and in the back can cause oversteer, and make you spin out easily.
Q: i bought a peugeot (new) in november 06 and wondered how often the tyres should be changed? and are they under warantee?
Tires are a wear item, so they are not covered under any warrantee. Generally tires will last about 60,000-75,000 miles depending on the type. Make sure you rotate the tires.
Q: Car Tire A / T What does it mean?
AT is an abbreviation for ALL ROAD TIRE, meaning all-terrain tires for a variety of road conditions
Q: is this a decent tire?
Our four wheeled 'friends' steer much differently. On a bike you are leaning more than steering. If you look at the size and tread pattern of most bikes you will notice that they usually have close to the same diameter overall but the front is usually a larger rim. This is because of the gyro/weight/control factor that a larger (read heavier) wheel would put on that dynamics. You should also notice that the tread pattern is reversed, this is done fore two reasons. One the front pattern is angled to 'wash-away' water for more traction to the rear in it's same path but also to give you more of a 'cat's-paw' effect in the road surface.
Q: 4 wheel dr new tires been rotated one time any help?
in spite of the actual incontrovertible fact that automobile manufacturers specify a definite tire rotation technique, it is not unfair to do this on your specific case: Rotate them from area to area. suitable front to Left front and vice versa. in case you had your tires suitable balanced you will no longer be conscious any substantial concern. Nor in the journey that your front alignment is nice. in any different case (improper stability/alignment) you will see some shaking which would be easy to severe. once you do this, the tires would be handing over a backwards mode or going in opposite. If there is an improper tire placed on, you will sense it.
Q: the tires have about 25k on them
On an AWD vehicle mismatched tires can overheat the transfer case causing very expensive damage. If the existing tires are more than 20% worn then yes, absolutely replace all 4 at once. Most tire shops will insist on this anyway since they are not eager to pay for your new transfer case. On some models if there is less than 20% wear it is OK to replace a pair so long as the new tires are identical in terms of size, brand and model to the two tires being kept. Consult your dealer or the vehicle manufacturer to be sure. PS Yes, I have actually witnessed AWD systems being damaged by mismatched replacement tires. The last one (about a year ago, 1 tire put on by another shop, not mine) the car lasted about 30 minutes after the new tire was put on before the transfer case gave out. I believe the lawsuit is still pending.
Q: Why is it that there are always more tire blowouts during the warmer months. Seems everywhere I go there are tire pieces on the side of the road.
i have an idea. price a new transmission from the dealer, then ask them if they'd simply do the fluid exchange for you. the price of the new one is what it would cost to have my-my's garage put an end to your drivers' car's transmission. gamble.then pay.
Q: hi i have a question.i am about to buy new tires , current one hav size 245/70R16but extra 5th tire on back of my truck is 225/70R16 .my question is - can i fit 225 size tires to current rims(245 currently)or i need to have smaller rimms ?
the 225 would work just fine on that same rim. i have a firebird that came with 235s from factory but now i have 215s on it and they work fine too
