- I don't live in the states but if you are looking at carpet... I would look at the density of the carpet and the material used to make it. in the synthetic material you tend to have the Olefin being the bottom end, polyester being the middle and Nylon being the top. If you want to save money but let it last longer upgrade the underpad and use a less expensive carpet. The extra thickness in the underpad will extend the life of the carpet

- Depends on how big of an area you are talking about and the carpet. I have done it with a high pile carpet by cutting a small slit and injecting glue beneath the carpet and then put weight on it for a while. If it is a low pile carpet you might have a hard time hiding your incision. Maybe if you can get a syringe type injector (meat injector) you can make a small enough hole that's not visible.

- clean the spot well and let it dry. Then go to the edges of the carpeting and snip some fibers. put glue on the spot and place those fibers. Small amounts at a time let dry for an hour then add more. Should camouflage it well
