- Q:Our guestroom has some old carpeting that we want to replace with new carpeting. I am about to rip out the carpet and padding and am wondering whether I need to remove all the old staples if I will just be laying carpet and padding over it again anyway. Thanks!
- Carpet padding staples can be removed(mostly) by a flooring scraper , if you have one. The kind you stand up to use with a long handle. You ll get most of them out. Others just pound down and carpet and padding will go right over them. GL

- I have used many different kinds, and I don't think it matters that much. It depends if it was made for rugs or not. They may not work on placemats that well. They are very different! I think it really depends a lot on the weaver, and not the weaver's tools.

I know at some point the vacuum cleaner was invented but for actual carpet cleaning (with a carpet cleaner) how did they clean the carpet. - My great Aunt and great grandmother would sweep the floors well and then lay damp newspaper on the rug. I always thought it was weird but newspaper stuffed in sneakers take the odor out so maybe this was the purpose of the newspaper. If the rug could be put over the clothes line this was done and then beaten with a rug beater. You may have seen a rug beater in an antique shop and it is an heavy piece of wire mounted on a handle that would look like a tennis racket without the strings. A tennis racket could sub for a rug beater.
- Q:Today I placed my laptop on the living room rug for a little while, and when I picked it back up I could feel little tiny bumps on the base of it. So I turned my laptop upside down and I could see about 30 or so super tiny bugs that were crawling around. They are so small that it's hard to say what color they are. - Q:I have to enlarge a raised hearth into a living room. It is already a 12quot; wide x 57quot; rectangle, 8quot; high, into the room with the carpet stretched to tack strip to the old design. I have to make it 10quot; wider into the room to meet code for the fireplace. How should I cut the carpet so that it can be stretched to the new design? My instinct is to draw out the new design, plus the tile dimension, onto the carpet and razor cut along that pattern. Is this correct, or does anyone have a better suggestion? Thank you.
- how long is the project going to take? if it is just going to be a few days and you plan on someone getting a stretcher and stretching the carpet back in the new place,I would just pull all the carpet back from one side of the wall,where the herth is, and then put it in and let the carpet guys go from there.... they will also have to take up the old tackwood and put new around the hearth so that would make it a lot easir for them...... if for some reason,like the room is to odd shaped you can't do it like that just allow a couple inches in from the measurements of the new hearth on the carpet and rough cut it...........
- Q:How do I get the carpet joint?
- Two kinds of methods of carpet seam (1) with sew two pieces of carpet bottom connected. (2) the glue on the adhesive tape should be heated to melt and paste. Iron can be hot melt, will be on it. When pasted, the adhesive tape is placed at the joint of the carpet. An iron is used to melt the adhesive on the paper surface, and the other is to press the carpet on the adhesive tape that has just been melted.
- Q:Which is more socially responsible: a machine made or hand made rug?
- I didn't realize that buying rugs had anything to do with being socially responsible. There is nothing made better than a hand made rug. It increases in value when properly maintained and adds much to the beauty of a home. Machine made rugs are mostly junk. There really isn't a choice. I ony buy hand made rugs.
- Q:i've asked this question 3 times before, but it hasn't worked :(Red is booked in for a trace/blanket clip in a couple of days, and i was wondering if i would need to rug her up a little bit more? she is a thoroughbred chestnut (someone told me that chestnuts have thinner skin??) and is in a 100g fill w/ a neck rug atm....the coldest it has been lately would be about 10/11 degrees c....the next rug we have is a 250g fill with neck rug, so it's quite a step up...Um... yeah... would i need to start putting that on, or do you think she will be O.K??
- Yes, I always add more rugs once clipped this year my boy had a 360g stable rug with neck and a fleece with neck under it most of the time. But it was going down to -12 some nights, if I'm not sure what weight to put on I usually put the heavier rug on then see how he is in the morning if he's to hot then I put a lighter weight rug on the next, he's pretty good at telling me when he's to hot though.
