- Q:How to deal with the cigarette ash on the carpet?

- Q:I am having new vinyl flooring installed in the bathroom and I know that rubber or latex backed rugs can stain the floor yellow. Any suggestions? Thanks!
- Have you considered a foam backed bamboo rug? This won't yellow the floor and it won't slip and slide either. A rug with no backing is NOT a good idea in a bathroom. As for a rubber backed rug, if you only leave it on the floor when you use it after a shower or bath and keep it on the rim of the tub the rest of the time, it will take years and years and years before the flooring is yellowed... It's leaving it on the floor all the time that yellow the flooring...
- Q:Can anyone tell me if it is tacky to use a large carpet remnant as an area rug rather than buying a regular rug? I'm on a pretty tight budget, and I need a LARGE (10x10 ish) rug for our living room. Regular rugs that large are several hundred dollars. What do you think? Any other suggestions?
- Not tacky! I was wondering about the edges though... Will they look worn out after some time? I guess it depends on the quality of the carpet. Have you considered buying a used rug? Check out second-hand shops, Salvation Army shops, garage sales ect - plus ads in the local newspaper. Or you could place an ad yourself?
- Q:I have dark brown (medium chocolate, I'd call it) warm modern style leather sofa and love seat in a white room with 10 foot ceilings (I can't paint). The floors are oak, as is one book case (modern lines, arts and crafts style detail). The feet of the sofa are a dark walnut color. The accent pieces in the room will be yellow hues (artwork, vase, throw pillows). What sort of area rug should I get? Colors, patterns? Links to examples would be awesome. I'm getting more furniture, but I think the rug could really warm up the room. I'm concerned about getting something that looks too country or contemporary against the modern lines of the furniture.
- I would guess something in a med to large rectangle shape, where the wood floor would show around the edges, with med.size patch squares, in colors of terra-cotta, gold, rust, orange, med.brown, cream. I can't figure how to get a site set up on here, But you can try going to a walmart, big lots, k-mart store, I know I've seen the pattern i mention at big lot, but whether they still have it, im not sure, home depot, has a lot to pick from. - there's a few things that live in carpets or breed there. but moths are the ones that are famous for holes. the larvae eat the rug then become moths. If you're lucky a little flea spray and the worms will come up so you can see them. start using boric acid or diatomaceous earth (buy the kind for this use not the pool filter material). sprinkle on carpet and brush deep with broom. Vacuum more regularly and put down more boric acid every few months at least.
- Q:I have a dog and I still couldn't teach him where to pee and potty. So, I m planning to buy a carpet cleaner. Should I go with the Rug Doctor, which I used to rent and know it cleans perfect but very expensive ($700). or should I buy any other cheaper brand? - Yes the Bissell Proheat 2X 8920 works great on pet stains. I have an older brother and sister-in-law who have one. They used it on dog stains in there house. I worked terrific.
