Q: Ok, I have a 2000 Ford Contour Sport 2.5L V6 with 183K miles on it. I first noticed a problem a few weeks ago, now it‘s acting even crazier. The car doesn‘t stall, it takes off fine, there is no problem changing gears until, I get on the expressway, driving maybe 5-6 miles down the road then the RPM gauge shoots up to 3-4000, it jerks, then returns to normal. It does this maybe 2-3 times in a 10 mile trip from my home to my job. I took it to a shop(my moms favorite shop, her suggestion), and they got the code (P1702) and they say I need a new transmission for $1300-2200, I don‘t have!!! I‘m not a pro or even a novice mechanic, but I do know that if it‘s NOT having trouble changing gears, then it can‘t be the transmission right? I‘ve been online all day, and I tried finding out that the code means, with no luck. the info I do find points to the transmission sensor. It‘s at the shop now, I hope that‘s it, suggestions anyone?
THERE'S A DEMON LIVING IN YOUR CAR ????
Q: What does transmission line compensation means? What are the effects of ‘compensating‘ a power transmission line?
mostly every 5 time you ride your bike depending on how far you ride it and what you ride it on. But you can buy a pump that cost $15 and you can pump as much as your want.
Q: How much do you think it would cost to buy a used transmission for a 2004 Hyundai Sonata? I‘m not sure if I even need one but it feels like its slipping. Also, if you know of anything to do to fix it before replacing it that would be helpful too. I know NOTHING about cars so anything will help.

Q: What is the correct transmission fluid for a 90 Saturn, automatic? ATF or AFF?TY
This would be a major project. Home fabricated A-arms, and a lot of engineering. Unless you know front end and suspension theory, do not even attempt it. I am sure it could be done, but I am not so sure the results would be worth the work.
Q: I‘ve had the transmission fluid replaced. But this hasn‘t stopped the gears slipping. The car has 280,000 miles on it. I‘m sure the transmission is going to have to be rebuilt. How much will this cost?
Check the transmission fluid level with the engine warm and off. Unlike other makes, Honda engines have to be off to check transmission fluid. If the level is OK, try changing the fluid. It could be getting old OR someone may have put an aftermarket fluid in and that will cause it to slip. Honda's require their own brand of fluid. If that doesn't help, I recommend taking it to the pros for diagnosis and repair.
Q: I have a 98 mustang 3.1 liter v6 and 3rd and 4th gear went out. Is there any other vehicle transmission that will fit in the mustang?I went to the junk yard but theres no 98 mustang transmissions. So what other vehicle has the same size transmission that i could switch it out with?
First you need to determine which tranny you have. Just about any tranny of the same type and around the same year that fits a 3.8 will work. There were some T-birds built with the 3.8 V-6 If it is the same tranny it will work.
Q: i want to know the type of electrical cable commonly used in transmission of electricity.
High tension wires are usually steel alloy or a copper alloy mix. Transmission cables can be hollow because high power travels along the skin of the conductor. It is called the 'skin effect'. Distribution cable can be aluminum, alloy, copper, or combinations of the above. Most all industrial, commercial, and residental wiring will be copper (with some aluminum, but I wouldn't use it).
Q: I have a 1990 Ford Mustang LX 2.3L and I recently discoverd a leak coming from under the car. The leak appears to be coming from the gear box, but when I looked more closley under the car i saw that the entire transmission was covered in a gunky oil type substance. Does any one know what that couldbe from? Thank You
If it's an automatic, it goes down the dipstick tube. A manual has a 2 plugs on the passenger side, the bottom is the drain, the upper is the fill. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES DO YOU UNSCREW ANYTHING ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE!!! You will lose the reverse detent lever in the trans and have to disassemble it.
Q: I want to know what base band and broadband transmissions are and how they relate. I also need an example in everyday life.
both send, recieve and have idle states. think of baseband as ethernet networks CSMA/CD. it either sends, recieves or is idle state on one channel in it's cable. broadband would be like att broadband internet service. it sends, receives and idle on multiple channels within the same cable.
Q: I‘ve got one of these brand new 2014 Nissan Sedans (at 1k miles so far) and am a little concerned with what I‘m seeing online.I‘m a bit of a skeptic and all I‘m see is anecdotal, more negative things about CVT than positive. And I get the feeling that people don‘t say anything until something goes wrong so these anecdotes aren‘t representative of the overall reliability of CVT‘sSo is there anything more scientific out there that takes a look at the reliability of CVT‘s?Any studies or mechanics/experts that may be able to tell what the failure rate of CVT‘s is in comparison to other transmissions? Thanks
I don't know if any of my experience carries-over to the Nissan . . . have a Ford Five Hundred CVT AWD. We like it - but heard the same reliability horror stories and have talked to many mechanics, the dealer service dept, and done some online research. The Ford CVT is no less reliable than their other auto transmissions - - but is unforgiving of lapsed maintenance. Our other Ford with a conventional automatic doesn't need service until 100,000 miles, but the CVT is to be serviced at 60,000 - - - reason: the anti-wear additives in the special fluid wearout and there would be excessive wear to drive chains. Every quick oil change shop we asked was ready to flush the transmission for us . . . although they were unaware of the special CVT fluid required, or that it has two filters that MUST be changed. If you skip service and the transmission fails prematurely, dealers don't fool around trying to repair it - - - they replace it and costs of $5000+ are not uncommon. We had ours PROPERLY serviced on time and continue to have no problems. As we expected the car gets about 1 mpg less than the conventional automatic, but that is probably from the full-time AWD. The transmission is a wonder: smooth, always INSTANTLY in the correct ratio (we have a steep, steep driveway and must manually downshift other cars - but not the CVT). We are disappointed that Ford no longer offers the CVT in the new Taurus . . . . which is why Nissan is on our list for next car - so we can have another CVT. ADDED Monkeysnot: There may have been others, but Dutch manufacturer DAF introduced Variomatic transmission in 1958. . . the patents for which were one of the reasons Volvo later bought DAF . . . and Ford bought Volvo !
