Q: My cat wee'd on my 100% wool rug, ive tried cleaning it with the usual stuff like soapy hot water, but the smell still remains. Is there something I can use to get rid of it without ruining my rug?: wash it a few times, if the smell remains its probably just because its wet or it may be your sence of smell or perhaps its not just in the rug. wool tends to smell after it has been wet, it smells like urine. there are wool wash stuff, perhaps wash it in that. also dont let the cat near it unattended. cats are well know for urinating on our new and expencive items, its there way of getting attention, even if its only bad attention.

Q: just found out my light turnout rugs from last year to keep my horses protected from the wind and rain as they live out all year but they are kinda stinky as theyv been storred in the yards shed, the writing on the tag has wore away so i cant see what it says about washing them?they are amigo light turnouts.do you wash yours in any particular way? and what do you use to wash them in?: I get them professionally cleaned; they do an amazing job and it's not that much money. All I can do is recommend things. Your life style w/ 3 dogs I suggest more hard surface's w/ maybe area rugs. Hard surfaces such as laminate, vinyl, or ceramic tiles. But you asked about carpet. With dogs berbers of any kind are not good, this includes low nap commercial carpeting.I suggest you go look at multi tone carpets that dont show dirt are readily as a solid color. To help keep it looking good you ll need to have it professionally cleaned at least once a year.When shopping look for stain resistant carpet that the stain blocker is treated into the yarn when its made , not after the carpet is made..Look at major manufacturers , such as Shaw and Mohawk. Q: wax cleanup from rug: don't use an iron. You have a good chance of melting your rug if it is made of synthetic fiber. I used an iron on a rug before and the rug material actually melted and stuck to the cloth I had laid on top. If your carpet is wool or cotton it won't melt...but the melted wax will actually wick into the carpet fiber when it liquifies. Do the opposite. Get a bag of ice and freeze it for several minutes, then scrape the hardened wax from the carpet with a credit card or plastic scraper. If there is any wax color remaining in the carpet, you may have more problems.

Q: Today I placed my laptop on the living room rug for a little while, and when I picked it back up I could feel little tiny bumps on the base of it. So I turned my laptop upside down and I could see about 30 or so super tiny bugs that were crawling around. They are so small that it's hard to say what color they are. But they are smaller than a grain of sugar! I do have two dogs, so I dont know if they came from the dogs, but I have never seen these things before. Does anyone know what they might be?: They might be carpet beetles. BOMB! You can buy a couple of bombs in the hardware store. Close up the rooms and put a bomb in each room that has a rug. Take your pet(s) out for the day. Set off these bombs and leave. Vacuum EVERY day afterwards. Now, If the dogs are itching or if you look on their underbelly and see something crawling on them, it's probably fleas. If that's the case, you need to get meds from the vet and attack the problem with a vengeance.

Q: Does anyone have a good recommendation for carpeting with someone who has a lot of pets? I have 2 dogs and 2 cats and want to get carpet in my home but not sure if it's best to get berber or shag or plush..... sigh, so many carpet choices! I currently have hardwood flooring but I'd prefer carpeting. Any suggestions would be very appreciated. Thank you.: It's not really wise to have any kind of carpet with pets unless they are house trained and even then with cats they just love to sharpen their claws. If you could sand and refinish the hardwood it may be a lot cheaper. If you insist on carpet, Stainmaster has some very tight weave pile that may be suitable. Check out closeout store options. Q: I don't think it would be a good idea to have one in a dorm (harder to clean, etc.) so what should I tell my roommate? She won't give up on trying to convince me.: If your only reason for not wanting the rug is that it would be more difficult to clean, then agree to get a shag rug only on the conditions : 1. she purchases the rug (which will then obviously be hers to keep once you two stop living together); 2. she cleans the rug; AND 3. she doesn't get bent out of shape if you think the rug needs cleaning and you then ask her to do so. If she is trying THAT hard to get you to okay having a shag rug, then I'd let her do it, as long as she knows that it is her responsibility to clean it, AND that cleaning is subject to both of your subjective opinions on cleanliness.
