- Q:On TV they always fill a room with sectionals. How do you decide what is too big? I have a decent sized family room (14x14) and I'm considering a sectional in the middle of the room instead of against walls (which is more traditional). They do it on the design shows all the time but I'm curious if there are particular guidelines or rules...
- The size of your room determines the size of your furniture pieces and not just the footprint they take up but the physical size. Big bulky pieces will take up more visual space. 14x14 is not large enough for a sectional unless it was a smaller one and even then it may not be able to float in that size room. Lining the walls with furniture is not traditional but usually about lack of design knowledge. If you want to float the furniture in that room you might do better to get either two small sofas facing each other in the center or one small sofa and a couple of chairs on the other side with an ottoman in the center to act as a coffee table or extra seating. Measure the furniture pieces you are interested in, make a template of your room and the pieces and see if it works. But again, no big overstuffed pieces, just simple clean lines.

- well there is this stuff called odo ban it removes odors , ad kills germs , it says it is euclalyptus scented but it smells so good , we use it on our sofa ,and beds .. o can get this at wal mart it is cheaper than febreeze and works much better as well

- OMG would take all of 5 mins as a Joann's find a piece of material you like, tell the person how big your sofa is they will assist you to cut a big enough piece to cover the entire sofa like a sheet. Don't turn it into a slip cover just use it like a sheet enjoy! Best of luck to us all, ciao. GAH
- Q:I am moving into an apartment and would love to get some help ...Trying to create a modern look and Im centering the whole decor on our sofa set which is beige green with black brown wood on the edges of its arms.The color palette for the decor will be slat blue, white and a bit of orange (just for the flowers)..Wondering if it okay to get a white coffee table...The tv console is also black-brown.Also, what color should i chose the area rug ? - Choose a lighter green, perhaps a 'sea green' that has lots of 'white' in it ... or choose a pale yellow color. I like the hunter green carpet and the 'sea green' walls, though ... but if you do use the 'same' color, just lighter, then you'll need to choose a good 'contrasting' color to 'brighten up' the whole room ... a nice 'medium red' would work, or a 'pattern' with pink and burgundy would also be good.

- If it's brown then duck egg blue goes really well with it. You could keep the walls in a neutral off white (almond white is nice) and just put one feature wall in the duck egg blue. The feature wall is usually the one adjacent to the window. Another idea is to use greens, you could try a limestone colour or if you want to be really bold, then go for a lime green which is really trendy at the moment! If you go with the lime then I'd just do a feature wall, not the the whole lot or it will be a bit heavy. Be careful doing the feature wall as the lines will need to be really crisp to look good! If you don't want to be too bold, you could try a light coffee brown that will compliment the brown sofa, just make sure that you use some coloured accessories so it's not all too brown. Some light blue scatter cushions would look great. Get samples before you decide an paint a big enough area on the wall so you can see how it looks with your furniture. Leave it a day so you can see how the light changes in the room Good luck and happy decorating!
