- The smell of couch covers is not dangerous. If you're paranoid, rinse them before you use them If they were moldy, which it sounds like they're not, even that wouldn't affect the utensils, unless the mold was on them too.

- Sadly there is no cure for you leather sofa, unless you are willing to spend loads of money on repairs. You'r better off just getting a new one. As of keeping the kitten off the sofa in the future, try clipping the kittens nails and buy a scratching post. Than everytime the kitten tries to sharpen it's nails on the couch, move it to the scratching post to scratch on. A permanent way of preventing this is getting the kitten permantly declawed. This is only recomended if the cat is an indoors cat, dont get it declawed if it goes outdoors. It needs it's claws to survive outside.
