Q: why use a large gauge spark plug wires
10mm Spark Plug Wires
Q: my radio was stolen i'm trying to put in a old radio in but when someone stoled my radio they cut the wires so now i can't tell what go,s where can someone please help? it's a ford f150 pu trck w/ 4 speakers i just need the wire color codes to hook-up,plus thy stole the manal to the trck too. please help.ty
You might have to go to a speaker shop and they have a little wire gadget there which tells them which wires are what. Don't know if you'll have to pay though or not. You might be able to buy one yourself.
Q: How do I wire an outlet that has two black and to white wires. It this case the white being the HOT wires?? Don't know why all the white wires in my house are HOT.. And the black are nuetral???
Seen it before in residential, commercial and industrial apps. Why? Haven't a clue other than folks are just backwards that way. *L* I laugh now but it's usually not funny in the field. I've heard arguments between electric power and electronic folk over black v. red color codes but don't remember similar arguments over black v. white. Perhaps someone older than me can shed some light...
Q: I have a '78 jeep cj7 with points type ignition, I was wanting someone to explain exactly how to wire up the coil, starting with the 3 wires from the ignition switch.
HI use a test light.. hook it up to ground and turn the ignition on. one wire should be hot that goes to the + of the coil. then have someone turn the switch to start (I'd disconnect the wire from the solenoid to the starter so it don't turn ) the test the other two wires one of them should be hot now. that also go the the + of the coil. The last wire well go to the - side of the coil.. You may ask why to hot wires to the coil... one only supplies like 5 to 9 volts to the coil which is all that is needed to run the motor. The other supplies a full 12 volts which is needed for start up only. good luck Tim
Q: The infamous headlight switch please help
What is so infamous about plugging the wiring to the switch? It will only plug in one way. UPDATE 8/6/11: In over 45 years, I've only replaced one headlight switch that had melted and that was on a 1994 Plymouth Acclaim and the driver had left the headlights on all night and yes it drained the battery. The plastic plug had melted but the wires had not burned through, so I had something to work with. There is a possibility you can find a wiring diagram on Auto Zones website for your car, they do have an extensive library or you could try to find a Haynes manual for your car. Or if you are low on $$ if you tell us what manufacturer, model, year of car you drive someone here might be able to help.
Q: when checking white wire at the box it is cold when checking at the light switch it has power i am confused
The white is the neutral and has no power in it from the breaker box. When you check it at the light or switch you are getting power back through the light bulb.
Q: i need 175ft of 110 wire how much does it cost?
Most all of the wire used in an average home will carry 110 volts. If you're looking to install some new recepts or switches, then most likely #12 wire would work just fine. At 175', you're going to use most of a 250' roll, which is the way most residential wire is sold. A 250' roll will run about $35 - $40 depending on where you live and whether you buy it at a wholesale electrical supply house or a retail store. Buying the wire by the foot will most likely cost about the same as the price/ft. for cut wire goes up.
Q: Electron flow in a conducting wire.?I have some confusion regarding the flow of electrons in a wire when voltage is applied across it. Intuitively, i see that when i apply voltage across the ends of the wire say by a battery. The voltage pushes the electrons in the wire. As, a result the electrons flow in straight direction rather than going zig-zag. Some of the electrons reach the positive terminal of the battery, now my query is what happens when the electrons reach the positive terminal.Do they loose all their energy? Also, how is there a constant flow of electrons in the wire because since electrons are flowing constantly from the negative to the positive, is there no instance all the free electrons in the wire have reached the positive terminal? Basically what i mean to say is do the free electrons ever gets extinct? I am sorry if my question sounds stupid but can anyone please explain me a little bit in a conceptual manner?
Well, the wire is connected to a voltage source. When they leave the positive terminal, they go through the wire, then get to the negative terminal. They then flow through the voltage source and back into the wire.
Q: If 46 m of nichrome wire is to have a resistance of 12.0 Ω at 20°C, what diameter wire should be used? in mm
Resistance of a wire in Ω R = ρL/A ρ is resistivity of the material in Ω-m L is length in meters A is cross-sectional area in m? A = πr?, r is radius of wire in m resistivity Nichrome 150e-8 Ω-m 12 = (150e-8 Ω-m)(46m)/(πr?) solve for r, which would be the radius of the wire in meters. change to mm, and multiply by 2 to get diameter. .
Q: I have two white wires left...one is a speaker wire and the other is the constant 12v wire and I don't know which is which. They are the same thickness so unless one of you guys know I'm pretty much screwed here. Also, I have a black ground wire sticking out of the wiring harness and the ground wire from my stereo harness doesn't look like they should attach to each other. This is my first install and I've got everything else hooked up. Just need some pointers.
How would we be able to tell you the difference between two identical white wires? Use the one on the left? Use a volt meter, and find out which wire has voltage on it. A speaker wire won't test with voltage, a constant power wire will. You can always connect the head unit's ground wire to a metal point on the sub-dash. Edit: if you don't want to use the factory ground wire, it doesn't really need to be connected to anything. I suppose you could attach it to the same spot you connect the head unit's ground wire.
