The outer ring of drawn cup needle roller bearing is punched with the high-quality steel sheet. - Q:My Escape started making a noise at about 35,000 miles. At the time the dealership said it was the tires. I replaced the tires. The noise did not change at all and now has progressively worsened and now they are telling me the right, left AND center wheel bearings need to be replaced (at my expense since now the car has 42,000 miles). They did say the bearings are still sealed and there is no water damage and no other obvious damage. I think they must be defective and Ford should replace them as from what I understand it would be very unlikely for all 3 to just go out at 35,000 miles. I'd like to know if Ford has addressed this problem for anyone else and also if anyone has any ideas on how to make Ford provide the parts and repairs at no cost to me.

- ?!?!?! NO! Finger acetone cannot be used to clean bearings. You can clean bearings with a few things, I can only remember WD-40 at this point of time. Remember to completely dry the bearings before adding the correct lubricant and re-capping them.

- Honestly... unless you have very good bearings, the best thing youc an do is toss them and get a new set. Most bearings are inexpensive and rather cheaply made. If you are using something like bones swiss, then take care of them and they can last for years. What do I use to clear my swisses? Gasoline. Its dangerous, but nothing works better. Honestly, just get a new set if you are riding cheap bearings.

- Now here is what you do if you get a shop to do it. Get estimates from everyone. Then go by brake check and get an estimate. Now the trick is is to get on the computer for the brake check in your city, if you have one. They have a calendar there where you can schedule your vehicle for putting in new bearings. If you will notice, on certain days, they have up to 30% on some locations at different times and days. You might call and ask what the percent off covers. Is it parts or labor or both. But seems a good deal. Otherwise, buy a hayes repair manual for about $20 or so. Bearings are one of the few things that are EASY to put in. Now you can go to one of those back yard mechanics who can do it real cheap.

- I'd call a few shops and get some estimates. I never heard of a hub causing the wheel to shake, maybe you outta go to a national chain that does free estimates and have it checked out by a professional.
