Q:Im just wondering how important it is to clean and regrease a cars wheel bearing. Working as a bicycle mechanic, this is something I do on a daily basis to every other bike we work on. And so Ive always wondered why I dont hear about wheel bearing going out on cars, or why I dont hear about having them serviced...Im assuming they are sealed bearings, but still it seems like they should need serviced every so often. I drive an early 90s ford truck, nothing fancy. Is this something I should consider doing, or should I not worry about it unless they start making noise?Thanks!
It depends on if your truck is 2 wheel or 4 wheel drive, on a 4 wheel drive truck the front bearings are not serviceable and are replaced as a sealed unit when they either have axial movement in them or when they are making noise (usually starts to humm or groan and changes with speed and turning) on a 2 wheel drive truck the front bearings are serviceable and are usually inspected and either replaced or re greased when you have your brakes replaced, it is usually not necessary to have them worked on in between brake jobs. The rear bearings on either a 2x4 or 4x4 truck are lubricated by the rear axle fluid and are usually only replaced if making noise, there is no way to grease them besides changing your rear axle fluid

ABEC ratings are irrelevant to skateboarding. A higher number indicates better tolerance in the bearings. It does not take into consideration overall quality of the bearing, nor the ability to take side loading, which is common in skating. The rating is only useful for applications where the bearing spins in excess of 20,000 RPM. If you look, high-end bearings do not indicate ABEC ratings. It is just a marketing tactic.

You will want to make sure that your bearings are placed correct in your wheels and when you tighten the bolts down do not tighten too much. you wil actually want a tiny bit of slack in between your nuts and bearings as funny as that sounds. this will allow your wheels to roll more freely. If bearings are new the should sound fairly smooth but they take a while to break in. New Bone Reds are fast enough to where you wont need any lubricant but if you really must dont use any crap like wd40. actually get something worth your while
Q:Which is better?
i've never used destructo bearings before but I have used rush bombers and they are a nice bearing, took a little while to break in but once they were they lasted a couple years with proper lubing and cleanings here and there, most bearings will if you take care of them.

I don't think the goose-neck bearings are bad, I think all it needed was lubed and tightened up. but if you wanta spend ur money on bearings you never needed in the first place, or if you listened to a liar motorcycle dealer that told you you needed them, only because he wants to make money by selling you new bearings then there's nothing i can do. just remind me to never buy a used bike from you I hate motorcycle dealers, OOOOOO I HATE THEM AGGGHHHHHHH HATE THEM soooo bad!
Q:I got my car alligned and suddelt every time I turn it makes an awful groaning noise. I believe it's the bearings but I JUST had them done a year ago and hardly drive... Could the allignment have caused this? A year seems like such a short time for bearings to last.

Q:recently went to tire discounters to get some new tires, and they told me both wheel bearings were bad and my tie rod end was bad? me being a diy'r on most car things i said ill fix em, but they refused an alignment til my problems were fixed, though the wheel bearings aren't making any noise yet, i figured i would change them once i had the extra money to pick up a press and the bearings and shims i may need to press it in, if i replace just the tie rod end will they be able to align my car?
You can't, but if it is a rear wheel drive car the front bearing may be adjustable in which case you or the mechanic can take out the play. Play may also be in the balljoints which definitely need replacement before aligning. Wheel bearing play would be felt in 3 and 9 o'clock positions as well.
Q:so i was in my room thinking on how to make bearings faster so i thought of eye drops which they dont have water so i got some old rusty bearings n they dont go that fast cause there old n rusty so i put the eye drops on the bearings n they started going fast then i put them on my abec-5 lucky bearings which they r new n dont go fast cause i haven't broke them in already so i once again put the eye drops on the bearings n they went fast but my concern is, will the eye drops mess up my bearings
NO water? NO WAY. They are principally water with a few other ingredients. You are not cleaning them if you are putting the drops in and leaving it. You are lubricating them. Water works for a short time but will destroy greases or gels and if you use enough to destroy them completely (or if they were oiled) will eventually rust the bearings. Rusted bearings will never be as good as new. Cleaning involves flushing out old oil/grease/gel/dirt/etc. Water is a suitable cleaning material (but will not reliably remove many lubricants) as long as you dry the bearings before adding new lubricant. If you want to add a little material to free up bearings, just use a little light oil. It is cheap and most hardware stores carry it in small tubes with a needle tip so you can get it in small places. I haven't cleaned bearings in years because I find it better to just get new ones when they are really bad. When I do: I start with lamp oil (desented kerosene) because it will remove any old lubricant that is holding crud in the bearing. Next water with dish detergent to remove the lamp oil (some people just dry them out by draining and relube at this point) Followed by rinsing in water to remove the soap, drain, and rinsing in denatured alcohol to dry them. Then use whatever lube you like.

Q:i noticed they had some dirt in them after rideing around a bit and it happens to be from just 2 bearings from 1 wheel, ive completely disasmbled the bearings and tried to put them back to getter but the ball bearings just keep locking up on me !!! its been frustrating me like crazy man, and i know its not from not having lube they always have lube in, its just the reassembly that wont go well.
