Q: My power supply has one cable with 3 sata connectors on it. Can I connect my disc drive and hard drive on the one cable? My PSU also has a cable with 3 four pin molex connectors on it and my case has 3 fans. Can I connect all my fans to that one cable with all the molex connectors on it?
Yes to both questions. It doesn't matter whether you're connecting only harddrives to that cable or only diskdrives (aside from the fact that these are usually located a little apart from each other.) You can combine both and they will work. As for fans... If they have the molex connectors rather than standard 3-pin fan connectors, you can connect them for sure. Depending on what power supply you have, you'll probably have anywhere from 18-30amp on your 12v molex rail. Harddrives will take under 2amp, and depending on what fans you have, they'll use anywhere 0.5-3amp, so even if you have 3 extremely powerful fans drawing 3amp each (3 x 3amp = 9amp), you can safely connect 6 of such monster fans to that 12v molex rail. To be honest, I haven't met too many of such fans - most standard 120mm fans, even with leds, will use no more than 1.5amp. 80mm fans non-led fans will use about 0.3-0.5 amp. If you have a very powerful psu with 30amp on 12v rail and hundred of 80mm fans, in theory you can run all of them. In practice, I'd like to see that :)
Q: the light on the power cable box is orange when the xbox is turned on does this mean the cable is broke or the console? thanks
you need to find out the error code and find a solution to it.
Q: This is a self built computer. When using it in a different room, it functioned normally. However, now that I've moved it to a new room, it would constantly reboot or just loses power entirely. With the latter, I would have to remove the power cable and hold the on button for a while before I could turn it back on. Also, when I shut it down, the computer would reboot by itself instead.
Most of times the issue should be occurring because some problem related to power. Do easier things first. 1. Use another power cable. 2. Get an extension form different wall plug and power your PC through it. 3. Bring the PC into previous room and try. When using it in a different room, it functioned normally. However, now that I've moved it to a new room, it would constantly reboot or just loses power entirely According to your above saying, I can guess something like this also, If the computer had faced to some shock while you're changing rooms, sometimes, these is a chance to occur these kind of problems because a shock can produce a loose connection. Remove the causing and check all the connections inside CPU such as Power, RAMS, Processor....... and all it's possible.
Q: I bought a XFX Radeon 6970 and I KNOW it is going to need power cables. I just need to know exactly which ones. Please help
It needs 150w through the 8 pin connector and 75w through the 6 pin connector, in addition to the 75w it draws through the PCI bus. You can see the connectors in pictures of the card. These are standard connectors on an ATX12V v2.2 power supply, but you will need to make sure the power supply says 2 x 6+2-Pin for PCI Express power connectors. One or two six-pin connectors alone isn't sufficient.
Q: The power button doesn't appear to be wired correctly. I press it and nothing ever happens. The only way to shut it down is to forcefully remove the power cable. My PC also does not shut down when I select shut down in the start menu. It just restarts.
Dude then u have to call a engnr nd get it repaired then format ur full pc nd then reinstall xp or vista.....!! if its wire prob then no 1 can help u other thn comp. engnrs....!!!!!!!!!!
Q: We have AT U-verse and we lost power during a storm. The picture returned and sound through the tv speakers but our surround sound did not. We have an Onkyo receiver along with the U-Verse cable box but nothing was changed.Any ideas?
Most likely the receiver is on the wrong input
Q: Specs on my projector reads:100 - 240v2.5 - 1 A50 - 60 HzNow I have a power cable that reads 2.5A 250v. can i use this power cable on my projector? please help!
Yes, as long as the connectors on both ends are correct, you will be OK. The 250V 2.5A rating is the maximum for the cord which is beyond what your projector needs.
Q: lets say for an optical drive, the power cable has four pins. im guessing that there is power (12v?) and ground but what about the other two?im trying to plug a pair or old neon sticks into my car for accent lighting and i need to know where to put these wires at, if they are all neccessary.
The four pin connector that is used to power PC drives supplies two different voltages: +12 volts for the motor +5 volts for the electonics The other two pins are ground pins. ________ / .............. |..1..2..3..4..| |.................| Pin Function 1 +5 V 2 Ground 3 Ground 4 +12 V
Q: Hey guys I have a compaq sr5550f desktop the power light under the cable is flicking green but the computer will not turn on or off yesterday it was fine but unable to connect to the monitor I have saying no signal? whats up with it it was fine two days ago I unplugged all cables and let it rest and still the same result even if i unplug all the cables it still flickers green the dies off then if i plug it back it does it again help?
Does the fan spin (at the back, near where you plug in the power cable) at all? If not, you probably have a failed power supply that needs replacing.
Q: why use of black color for electrical Power cables ?
Someone had to make a choice and black was it. Black and red are the hot wires. White and green are neutral. Update: Lee26Loo may be right about color being different for different countries, but you asked about a black wire so I assumed you are in USA.
