Q: Been renting rooms for years, and now I'm finally ready to get my own little place. I'm trying to save space and money basically. I'd like for there to be a comfortable place for people to sit when they visit. I'd prefer not to have a mattress and frame as that would require a lot of space and its not very versatile and cant be moved much. I also dont want something really uncomfortable. I've slept on air beds and floors for years, but I'm not trying to go that route.I only have a bedroom, kitchen, and small bathroom. My bedroom would have to double as a living room basically. Please help!: That looks a lot like the sofa a tenant left in the suite I'm now living in, but this one is a hide-a-bed and way to heavy to lift for one person. So it was left behind. How tall is your doorway opening? Most are 82, but some older ones are taller, and a 91 sofa can be passed through them on end, if there aren't any serious obstructions right near the inside of the door. This requires at least two strong and experienced movers, btw. Add: I see your door is only 79 high. Sorry. In looking at the side or end view of that sofa, there is some soft padding on the top that could compress enough to fit through a 36 opening if the door is swung open way way wide and the padded part somehow compressed, say with cardboard and ropes. No guarantee that will work, though. Maybe the sofa can fit through a window or something? Otherwise, perhaps you should keep looking for a similar design that will fit.

Q: They seem very comfortable, but those thin wooden slats and those soft plastic hinges that keep them together don't inspire much trust. Is this a sofa bed only for occasional sleeping and not recommended for other activities(wink)?: You'll smash straight through it as it is quite cheap nasty. Use the floor.

Q: My roommate's cat sleeps on my new sofa 24 hours a day. I would not mind if it was occasionally but he is always sleeping on it. He is a longhaired cat and the sofa is now covered in fur. The fur is very difficult to get off the fabric and my roommate does not offer to clean it up, so I just do not want the cat sleeping there. The only other thing I can think of is covering the sofa in plastic but I really do not feel I should have to do that in my own house. How can I keep him off the sofa?: The easiest solution I have found it to put a nice blanket or throw over the spot the cat sleeps on. I have 2 and when one is in the wash, I use the other. Use rubber gloves (dishwashing gloves) to remove the hair. Works like a charm!

Q: I just purchased a micro-fiber sofa, and the salesman claims it is stain resistant? I feel like I should protect it anyway with some kind of scotchguard. Does anyone have any experience with micro-fiber? Will scotchguard be a safe thing to do? Is it necessary?: It's not necessary. I've got a microfiber sofa, and have had it for 1 year. If I get a stain on it I just remove it with a damp cloth. It comes off really easy. The salesman is right!

I have tried using wintergreen alcohol and I have tried using distilled vinegar but the smell is still there does anyone have and suggestions for me?: The only way to remove urine odor is to use a product that has enzymes in it. The enzymes actually eat the bacteria causing urine and are safe and nontoxic. Vinegar and baking soda and all those other little tricks don't truly work for urine smells. The best place to find a urine cleaner is at a pet store and I have found the more expensive ones to be better. I buy SOX. I prefer this because you just soak (really soak) the smelly area and then leave it. When it is completely dry, you can vacuum the area. The enzymes will do all the work. Many other products have a soapy substance in it and leave a soapy film and then you are left trying to get all the soapy watery substance out. Because these soapy products are watered down, they don't work as good as the concentrated ones. I tried Urine B Gone, and it is a good product; however, I ordered mine over the telephone. I received the product a full six months later along. I had ordered 2 bottles and received only 1 but was charged for 2 on my credit card. Ended up paying about $68.00 (Canadian) for one little bottle. After many phone calls, I was able to trace the charge (with Visa's help) to Eagle Eye Marketing, but they didn't appear to have any address or phone number and I learned my lesson and will never order anything from television again. I am getting off topic here - in summary - go to a pet store and avoid buying the cheaper, soapier solutions.

I love it and could never go back. I had mine custom made by a friend who reupholsters furniture for a living. It was cheaper than buying it at a store.

The sofa was the most expensive because of the amount of materials needed. I think I paid about $175 for that and about $100 each for the chairs. But I didn't have to pay labor because my mom did them for me. Some tech colleges offer upholstery classes and you can do your own for less than paying a professional or sometimes the people in the class are looking for projects to do.
