Q: I'm looking into buying an electric fireplace for my bedroom, but the whole room is carpeted.Do you have an electric fireplace, especially one that's set on a carpeted floor? Tell me about your experience with it.Thank you!: Since your house is newer, unless you specifically purchased carpet with flame resistance, it's going to be a synthetic material like nylon or polypropylene with a really low melting point. All of the different types have a lower melting point than wood will burn at. The question you need to ask the fireplace salesman is, what temperature does the unit emit at the base? If it's enough to melt the material, put clay bricks underneath it. Clay is a natural insulator, and you can set em up in some art deco style manner. Also little sparks have a tendency of getting in carpet and I have a woodburning fireplace in the basement, it's messy; bringing in wood brings in bugs, look up your local bugs.. So make sure you plan for keeping the carpet clean and spark-free!

Q: Just bought an area rug, and I can't decide if it looks good. The area is small - and I get the feeling that it closes it in even more. But it also looks bare if there isn't something there...what do you think?Any advice would be wonderful! (Also, your take on the coffee table? Q: I want to ask my mom if I can put carpet in my room, because right now its hardwood. We live where it gets cold, so it would be nice to walk on in the winter. It also more comfortable to walk on, and would look better. How much would it cost to carpet my room if its about 13 by 13 foot?: Just a basic carpet itself costs in the 2.50/3.50 $ a s/f installed with a pad. Your room is an odd size for carpet so you can t do just by the s/f..Since carpet comes 12' wide you can get a 12x 12 cut off any roll carpet as low as 99 cents a s/f. Or small area rugs, place where you walk is a cheaper option if you can t afford full wall to wall carpet. Plus small area rugs won t ruin hardwood in the long run to keep the house value higher.. Q: What's the difference between a carpet and a rug?: And full carpet is the entire floor, is a large area of construction, carpet requirements are not so high, so the cost is relatively low.

Q: We are trying to get the carpet in one of our bedrooms in our house replaced, but we are on a tight budget. We went to home depot and they said they would have to charge us around $900 to replace all the carpet padding and install the new carpet. we said that we would leave the same padding (to save money), but the woman told us that it is an ohio state law that carpet companies MUST replace the padding if they are going to replace the carpet too. another company we called said this isn't true. was the lady at home depot just trying to get more money out of us, or is there really a carpet padding law? I cant seem to find anything about it. any help is appreciated.: It isnt the cleaning agent that stays in your carpet it is the water you put it in it that stays in it. Is almost impossible to remove all water from the carpet and pad. However I used to sell cleaners and the one way that I found that was very good and didnt leave any residue or moisture behind is use a dry foam cleaner the water you use will mix with the cleaner and make a foam that is dry like soap bubbles. After you are done cleaning with it you can usually just vaccuum it and you are done. Some foam cleaning systems usually have a softening agent as well which is good for your carpets fibers as well. Hope htis helps. Definately wouldnt do steam cleaning on carpets though thats for sure.

Q: I dropped some candle wax on the carpet... How do I get it out?: Often wax on carpet is just on the very tips of the fibers. If this is the case you can just snip the wax off with sharp scissors. Just cut the very tips of the fibers. Work slowly. Don't cut a single millimeter more than you have to and pull up while cutting. This will help prevent divots in the carpet. Try your best to do just one or two fibers at a time...not a whole clump. Dissect any wax clumps first by cutting them in half or thirds, so that you separate clumps. This will work unless you have already used an iron or otherwise melted the wax further in to the carpet. Also...cutting the wax off will work on shag or plush carpet, but not Berber or loopy carpet. Good luck. -

Q: My 2yr old spilled ALOT of syrup on our large area rug...I tried HOT water, blotting the area, scrubbing the area and carpet cleaning solutions....any suggestions? Rug still extremely sticky when we step on the areas where the syrup is soaked in.: You will need a lot of water. Put some terry cloth towels underneath and really soak it and blot it a lot. Eventually it will be gone. If you can, put the rug into a Washer or go to the commercial Laundromat and wash it there. I would use soap sparingly or not at all.

Q: Only rug like this I own, a hand off from a relative in a pattern I love, but it needed cleaning, so I bought a can of Resolve and followed the directions TO THE LETTER, practically sprained my back on it, and when it was dry and vacuumed within an inch of its life, it looked EXACTLY the way it did before I started. Complained to the company and they sent me coupons to buy more of the stuff I said didn't work -- why do they do that?
