Q: Can cement board be used for floor decoration?
A floor of the ground used: 1. tiles 2. flooring 3. marble you asked the shop where the shop shop black stone was here I tell you about my decoration experience, the store floor decoration generally use ordinary rows of tiles, The reason is: all ceramic tiles and marble cost is expensive, the general owner will not use
Q: I'm having old (30 plus years), damaged slate tiles removed and replacing it with ceramic tiles. I've discovered there is cement underlayment under the slate tiles. I'm having this work done for me and so far the floor looks like grenades have hit it. There are pot holes. How in the world are you suppose to remove these slates tiles that have been adhered to cement?? And, how do you repair the flooring to eventually lay down cement board and ceramic tiles?? I'm sick to my stomach.
As long as the cement is intact and not cracked, you can set the new tile right over it. Just knock off any high spots that are left after getting up the old tile, then trowel on new thinset mortar using a 3/8x1/4 square-notched trowel. As long as the existing cement is sound you do not need to remove it; this is an ideal base for new mortar. If it is cracked, this means that the plywood underlayment is moving up and down because it was not secured properly to the floor joists. But if the cement is in good shape there is no need to remove it. (Usually jobs that were done by craftsmen years ago who knew what they were doing are better than anything you can get today; you would not want to rip out a perfectly good base and replace it with something substandard.) As a matter of fact, if the existing tile floor has no loose tiles and no cracks, you really don't even have to remove it if you can go with the additional 1/2 or so in height that a new tile floor would entail. Just mortar right over it.
Q: I've put up my cement board walls now not sure what 2 use on it as a thin coat? I am not going 2 put tile on just want a textured cement look. Also is there a metalic type paint I can use on cement? I'm looking for options in my new shower area. There is a wax or plastic also that looks like it was a type of tile adhesive that I don't know how to get off before I stain or paint the concrete. Any suggestions on how to get it off? Can I use spray paint on the concrete in a shower area? Thank you
If water is going to be drenching it constantly it will peel.
Q: I have a walk in closet with plywood pieces for a floor. Don't I need cement board installed before putting in wood flooring? Thanks for your help!!
we okorder and search
Q: is there an easier way than just hammering to break it up until we ache? By old school we mean the house was built in the 50's and there is some type of chicken wire material in it.
Sure - you could do a hole-patching with thinset - you might put in a little fiberglass mesh too. I can't imagine why that wouldn't work just fine.
Q: What does the glass wire add to the cement?
In the cement board plus glass fiber to improve the flexural strength of compressive strength, will not be easy to break
Q: What is the easiest way to hang cement board in a bathroom which will be tiled?
Cement Board must be Securely Fastened to PRESSURE TREATED LUMBER or Metal Studs or Lats. Pre-Drill holes using a Masonry Drill BIT! Then fasten them using Stainless or Coated HARDWARE! Thanks, RR
Q: cost of installation per sq foot
I used to charge 2.50$ a s/f for installing cement board. This would include the board, thin set to set it ( floors) and nails/ screws. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar ..GL
Q: I want to cut off a lip of about 1/8 by 1/2 to accomodate the upper lip of a tub. I plan to do this with several passes of an abrasive wheel in a circular saw set to 1/8. My question is will I be able to machine the board like this or will I get a crumbling mess? the Hardiback is 1/2.
Hardibaker peels like an onion in layers. We use it half thick often and we just cut it to size and then using a razor knife pushed in between the layers and pull them apart like opening a peanut butter sandwich. This may help you. If you run that saw on the line where you need the lip to start on the board then use your knife to split the layers and peel them down to the cut you made. This may be an easier solution then eating away the excess material a little at a time. Good Luck.
Q: I'm getting my bathroom shower tile installed and was told to get 4 sheets 1/2 thick backerboard with screws and I need to know if there is a difference between Cement Board and Backer Board?
Same thing. Backer board is a general term. Backer board can be 1/4 thick. can be a wood substrate used for tile is certain circumstances ( not yours), it can be the Hardi board which is a cementrous type board. Basically a backer board any thing that goes under any tile . You should get the cement board for your application. And if your doing a shower and he/she didn t suggest it, a vapor barrier is also needed under the cement board.in the shower area. Any questions you e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL
