Q: Do you have to tape and fill seams on cement board when applying ceramic tile over it like when doing drywall?
With no offense meant to answer 1, Tape NEED NOT be applied to concrete backer board; for the purpose of tiling over. Thin set can be skimmed into the seams and screw holes. Certainly the board should be flush at it's face with any adjacent. If the house is wood frame; I suppose one might think that at some point it might shift; but we hope, not in our lifetime. Steven Wolf
Q: Is the cement board a cement pressure plate? What's the difference?
In the construction process can not be used directly, such as wall panels, the need to plaster paint or toilet to be tiling. Do not brush the exterior wall paint. Now the cement pressure plate can be sprayed on the outer surface of inorganic fluorocarbon coating, in the cement pressure plate surface decoration, in the factory factory can be directly for the interior wall or exterior decoration;
Q: how do you join cement board from a shower wall to drywall?
Other than being nailed to the same stud, it is not all that necessary that they be joined together. Just figure on the tile overlapping the drywall about a half an inch to kill the crack. You can mesh tape them together however and skim them flat with each other as long as you don't skim wide into the tile board area. You could do as little as just caulk the crack with silicone too.
Q: it'll probably be another week of them grinding the cement floor and cutting wood boards inside the house until all the wood is installed. there is wood and cement dust EVERYWHERE, and a lot of the downstairs is still just cement and the dust is on that too, so vaccuming/sweeping it isn't really an option, plus the fact that our furniture from the living room which they're laying the wood in now is all in the familyroom and kitchen and can't be moved to sweep underneath. there is a thick layer of dust on EVERYTHING, and we're also coughing from it. is there anything i can do to get rid of this dust without disturbing it with a duster? is there some sort of stuff i can spray that will dissolve the dust?
DONT DUST... the cement dust will scratch the surfaces of everything!!! it's abrasive. call a cleaning contractor. rennaissance man misses an important point... if you are using a vacuum you MUST have the vacuum venting it's exhaust to the outside.
Q: My husband fixed the faucet in the tub around two years ago. He cracked one of the tiles. We bandaged the area, but water has been getting behind the tiles. So, we have water damage. Plus, there is this weird white fungus looking stuff that is growing in some of the grout lines. I don't want to just put a liner over this mess. I would like to pull all the tile off and put cement board up (the house is old and it has sheet rock behind the tile), so i can start fresh. Will the liner hold up the same if it is glued to cement board rather than tile?
You def need to see what is behind that tile so you cannot just cover it, as you suspected. There should never have been dry wall there in the first place. You need green board. Take everything down...let it dry back there for 3 days even using fans if necessary. Then put up green board, then the wall liner.
Q: Can the Etch board be used for the bathroom?
It is best not to use, Ed board in a damp place for a long time easy to mold, interface cracking, yellowing. I suggest you use a single brick wall, strong and durable. If you feel more blunt, you can use glass brick wall. Fixed waterproof material for the bathroom is a wise choice, if you think your bathroom waterproof very good, or no steam and the like, then you just used. (Oh you want the wall and then thinner, you can use moisture-proof wood or antiseptic wood to do, but the general use of the plate)
Q: I have installed cement board ceiling & after painting i found cracks in joints of board. How can i rectify it?
Cement board is used as a sub base for tile. As for joints you would need to fill them, which usally you use mesh tape and thinset and then apply tile, I am not sure what you have done.
Q: Can you use rubber cement on a science fair poster board to glue papers down?
Rubber cement will damage some plastics and polished surfaces. If that is not a problem, then it can form a strong yet flexible bond, so may be suitable for your purpose.
Q: Help? Do I just lay new thinset on top or what?
That's what a friend and I did when we couldn't get the old thinset up off his kitchen floor. We just laid down some more thinset so the floor was level all the way across.
Q: cost of installation per sq foot
I used to charge 2.50$ a s/f for installing cement board. This would include the board, thin set to set it ( floors) and nails/ screws. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar ..GL
