Use a vacuum cleaner to vacuum up the baking soda from the carpet. 3 Apply dry-cleaning solvent to a clean, white cloth. Sponge the stained carpet with the cloth until the solvent is absorbed. 4 Inspect the carpet for remaining ashes or stains. Repeat the entire process if needed.

- Depends on how big of an area you are talking about and the carpet. I have done it with a high pile carpet by cutting a small slit and injecting glue beneath the carpet and then put weight on it for a while. If it is a low pile carpet you might have a hard time hiding your incision. Maybe if you can get a syringe type injector (meat injector) you can make a small enough hole that's not visible.

- There should be a tag somewhere on the rug with cleaning instructions. Generally, if something says washable, it means machine washable. Go to the JC Penney site and look for your rug. The larger ones have to be washed in a large commercial washer. If you do the smaller ones at home, I would wash two at a time to keep the washer balanced.

- Hi, Nail polish remover, Paint Thinner, Alcohol, even White Petrol are some of the substances you may use to remove the stain. Advise : Do not scrub the spill , but remove it by dabbing the spill in a circular motion using a clean white cloth. Caution : The colors of the rug may bleed if the wool is cheaply dyed. Try it on a small portion before trying on the spill Disclaimer : You should probably hire a professional to get your rug cleaned, but if you want to DIY then do so at your OWN risk only. - If you clean it yourself TONIGHT with a rental machine, I'd say it will should be dry by tomorrow night since it will probably be sometime in the wee hours of the morning when you finish cleaning it. If you have it cleaned by a professional tomorrow morning, you can leave the furniture in the room and they will put pads under the carpet to protect your carpet while it dries and it will dry in about half the time to dry.

- We loved the Rug Doctor so much we bought one. They work the best I have found. I have used other brands you can buy from your local department store and nothing compared. I have 4 kids and light carpet so it gets pretty dirty especially during the winter tracking in wet snow. Our carpets look brand new again after cleaning them. We use Gain or Tide laundry detergent in it and a small amount of bleach or use detergent with bleach in it. It leaves the carpet pretty dry afterwards. I would suggest using a scotch gard (you can buy that pretty cheap at your local home store) afterwards and it really helps as well. I believe there is one by 3M we used and it repelled liquid from soaking in. I love the Rug Doctor though!
