Q: I am having new white carpeting installed in my house. Curious how others who have white flooring keep it clean.
if your so concerned why are you putting down white carpet. I know it's the cheapest, but you should have purchased a different color. I have light beige carpet in my house and I have plastic runners everywhere and cover the rest with large area rugs until I can afford to rip it up and put down hardwood florring.
Q: hello, im getting a horse soonshe is a 15.3hh 5year old mare irish type sorti live in eastern england so the weather is pretty changeable :/i was looking at some horse rugs and i found some i like i thought that i would get 6 (3 stable 3 turnouts)i was going to get a :12oz/340g filled turnout9oz/250g filled turnoutand a no fill turnout sheet.14oz/400g filled stable8oz/220g filled stableand a waffle/fleece stable do u think that would be ok? first time horse owner you see want to get it right :) do i need more or more heavy filled rugs??thanks xXp.s the horse will be out in the summer months and in at night out during the day in winter
My boy is a 14.3hh bay pony.I bought 3 Harrison Howard rugs for him.2 rugs for winter keep him dry and warm, and 1summer rug keeps him cool in the sun's heat .i think you should buy a waterproof summer rug and one turnout rug and one stable rug at least,
Q: My mom has had a Karastan rug for 30 years now and it's in gorgeous condition and it has never once shed. It's also wool. I need to purchase one, but I don't like the old fashion designs on the Karastan rugs...does anyone know what other brand rug is equal to a Karastan rug that doesn't shed? I wish Karastan made more modern rugs in wool.
Most new wool rugs will shed as that is there nature. The saleslady is correct in her assumption to a certain degree. Depending on your vacuum cleaner, it could take less than 3 months or it could even take longer. The main thing is not to worry, as there will not be any significant loss of overall weight due to the shedding. Also, if you have pets, keep an eye on them as they will often times mark a wool rug, sometimes on numerous occassions as they sense a competitive animal near by. If you do not have pets your self, be cautious of visiting pets as they will also mark the rug.(when pets mark a rug they use urine).
Q: While yard-selling I came into a massive 9 by 7 grizzly bear rug with wavy blond hair in perfect condition for 20 dollars. Of course, I bought it. It's completely real, there is even a mole or two on the hyde if you look close. A good friend says they go for around 10,000 dollars. How much do you think, and where would I go to sell it?
Grizzly Bear Rug
Q: We are going to have our 3 year old carpet stretched. We also need to have it professionally shampooed. Which service should we have done first?
Any proper cleaning should not get moisture into the padding. As far as carpet, only natural fibers have a chance of shrinkage (not common), such as wool. With over 10,000 cleanings under my belt, I personally have never come across carpet shrinkage due to cleaning, though I have heard of one case. Almost all wall-to-wall carpet nowadays is synthetic... usually nylon, polyester, or polypropylene. A rippling effect is almost always a result of poor installation, and is worsened by consistent foot traffic and the moving of heavy furniture. I usually recommend for my customers to have the carpet stretched prior to cleaning. Carpet being cleaned first has no effect on how well the carpet will be stretched. However, cleaning a carpet with ripples in it will not provide quite as nice results as opposed to a nicely stretched one. Flat and flush to the cleaner's equipment works best. If done correctly, the repair technician should cut a line of carpet from the baseboard and not just tuck the excess from stretching, otherwise the carpet will begin to ripple again in the future. With heavy rippling a power-stretcher must be used, but a simple knee kicker should work fine for mild cases. Having the cleaning done after allows the technician to clean up the tufts and debris left by the repair tech. Plus, you'll have a fighting chance of getting rid of possible ripple marks that may be left after stretching. I have heard it recommended both ways, but in actuality it's not extremely important which one you choose to do first. I've done it both ways many times and eventually settled toward preferring the carpet to be stretched first. Also, I wouldn't recommend having the carpet shampooed. This will leave an unwanted residue coating your carpet's fibers. It's best to use the hot water extraction method, commonly known as steam cleaning.
Q: Is it true that you are better off buying a thinner carpet (not as dense or tall) with an 8 lb. carpet padding (the best) as opposed to a thicker carpet (dense and tall) with a cheaper 6 lb. padding? The price difference in the padding is dramatic...3.50/sq. yd. vs. 6.50/sq. yd.!
well thinner carpets are easy to clean. and of coarse a thicker one, can hold more dirt. it all depends on you. in your sense of taste
Q: Besides vacuuming, how do you maintain white carpeting? Personally I have found that using a storebought steamer makes my carpets look dingier. A person I knew at one time told me about a dry cleaning method using some kind of powder. She told me she rented the equipment and it only cost about thirty dollars. I've researched this and don't have any idea where to go. Links to more info. would be helpful.
I like using the dry powder method because it is so simple, no rental machine needed. You just sprinkle it down, agitate with a brush on a stick, let it dry and vacuum it up. It has brighteners in it and freshens up the look of carpet without leaving a detergent residue. Most Manufacturers also prefer customers use a dry granule method of cleaning carpets as it is not so hard on the fiber. Resolve and Capture both make them, as does Chem-dry.
Q: I installed laminate flooring in our living room this past weekend and where the laminate meets the carpet in our bedroom there is about 1 inch of a height difference. Can someone please tell me how to fix this?
It's called a 'transition', a piece of metal or wood that is beveled toward the two levels. Should have installed a sub-layer under the laminate before installation to bring it closer to flush as a 1 rise is a bit high. A 3- 4 wide transition is recommended in your case. Should have asked earlier.
Q: The hotel I work at is doing some major renovations. One of our flooring contractors left spackle foot prints all over our BRAND NEW carpet. How do you remove it without damaging the carpet?
Scrap off as much as you can, then vacuum.
Q: After the water inside the car, it is necessary to uncover the carpet inside the room after wiping cadres and painted with oil?
In addition, the owner should also carry out air purification in the car. At present, it is a good way to use the photocatalyst technology to purify the air in the market. This technology has been successfully applied to the antibacterial treatment of automobiles in japan. Owners can also use bamboo charcoal, activated carbon absorption of moisture in the vehicle, formaldehyde and volatile organic compounds and other harmful substances.
