- Q: How do you get black nail polish out of beige carpet?
- Do not use brake cleaner on your carpet. Any liquid that can penetrate to the carpet backing, that is used as a solvent, will damage/soften the backing. This will not be in your carpets best interest. A professional certified hot water extraction carpet/upholstery cleaner has products available to work successfully in thes application. They are both paste like, and come in tubes similar to toothpaste packaging. They will not penetrate down deep into the carpet. When the nail polish is softened and loose, it can be extracted from the carpet using an upholstery tool and hot water extraction. To find such a cleaning firm, go on the internet to IICRC, where a list of certified cleaners for your area of the country can be located. No, do not try nail polish remover. This is acetone and will penetrate to areas in the carpet where it will cause damage. Good Luck
- Q: I currently operate a rug store that sells almost all persian rugs in Santa Rosa California (in the San Fransisco bay area). Operation is rather stable but I have two issues.1. I sell high quality rugs and hence the prices are more expensive reflecting the quality. However, many customers can find designs similar to mine on the internet at 1/3 to 1/4 of the price. (internet is 600, mine are 3000). If you put the rugs side by side you can DEFINATELY tell the drastic difference in quality. How should I cope with this?2. - You sell such a luxury item that your client base is much smaller. You have to infiltrate the market by showing that you have great taste and an eye for quality. Get a couple of high profile (rich, important, and powerful) clients and then word of mouth should help you immensely. It is all public relations. Hire a specialist if you must. Buy one of the cheaper rugs and have it on display (don't be real in your face with it-put it in a corner so that you can direct people to it if you need to make the point-keep the receipt on display and be genuine. Personally, I bought a handmade rug from Iran (I can immediately tell that it is better quality than whatever they sell at retail stores for twice the price (I bought it for $300 with shipping on OKorder). It is a low psi (120) with a thicker wool and some low pile, but you must remember that most people intend to have furniture, children, and feet on their rugs. I don't mind the lower quality because I don't feel the pressure of keeping it pristine when I bought it for function (then beauty). If you wanted to expand your client base you could open a seperate place that dealt with the more affordable and function driven rugs that would cost under $1000, but still be better quality than synthetic machine woven options. - It depends on the carpet you choose as well as the size of the rooms. Wool vs. nylon. Pile vs. berber vs frieze. The type of carpet you choose will depend on what type pad you need, which of course is another variable in the cost. Carpet comes in a standard 12' width. If you have a room that has a dimension wider than 12', you may have to seam it (depending on how it is is run in the other rooms if all rooms connect) or go with a special order 15' width carpet. My mom recently carpeted one bedroom and that was about $1000. A lot of times you have to buy a whole roll of carpet even if you don't need that much. Because of that, it is at times almost as cheap to do the whole house than to do just a few rooms.

- Q: hey just wondering is there any big difference between a rug with leg straps and a rug with a tail chord?
- not really any big difference. Only that rugs or blankets with tail chords have one chord running behind the horse while rugs with leg straps go in between the horse's legs. Rugs with tail chords would be better for a horse who is stall kept who doesn't move around as much. The tail chord isn't the best for keeping a rug in place, especially when the horse is running around. Some owners don't like to use them because their horse developed a habit of using the chord to rub their tail Rugs with leg straps keep the rug in place and keep it straighter when the horse is moving around. Some horses with sensitive skin can get rubbings or chaffing because of the straps being too tight. They are better if your horse is pasture kept or rolls frequently.

- You can remove rust stains with regular White Vinegar. If the rug is machine-washable, douse the area with vinegar. Let sit for about 15 minutes. Then launder as usual. If the rug is not machine washable, again douse the area with vinegar. Let sit for about 15 minutes. Then scrub the area with shaving cream. Remove the shaving cream with a clean wet rag. It doesn't matter which brand of shaving cream you use...as long as it's the regular white shaving cream. Shaving cream is nothing but whipped soap that rinses out easily. The last thing you want to use on a rug or carpet is overly sudsy soap. -

- the thing is that wool and dye do have distinctive smells, that until you have had them cleaned at least once do not go away Black denim (not much different lol) smells horrible until it has been thru the wash a few times because of the dye, get it professionaly cleaned and hopefully the smell will go good luck

- It should be fairly easy to get out with a wet paper towel. If that doesn't do it completely then use some oxy clean spray or other carpet spot cleaning treatment.
