Q: I need to clean a spot of urine from our oriental rug (from Dubai). It may have been a day old when I discovered it. I soaked up as much as I could with a paper towel but it has left a slight stain.

Q: What do you know about Armenian rug history?
Armenians are the earliest known weavers of oriental rugs. Ulrich Schurmann, a reknowned expert on oriental rugs, believes that the Pazyryk rug, the world's oldest known rug (5th cent. B.C.), can be attributed to the late Urartians, or early Armenians, based on the rug's structure, design, and motifs [1]. Marco Polo and Herodotus are among the many observers and historians who recognized the beauty of Armenian rugs. They noted the rugs' vivid red color which was derived from a dye made from an insect called ordan (Arabic kirmiz), found in the Mount Ararat valley. The Armenian city of Artashat was famous for its ordan dye and was referred to as the city of the color red by the Arab historian Yaqut [1]. It is also theorized that the word carpet, which Europeans used to refer to oriental rugs, is derived from the Armenian word kapert, meaning woven cloth. The Crusaders, many of whom passed through Armenia, most likely brought this term back to the West. Also, according to Arabic historical sources, the Middle Eastern word for rug, khali or gali, is an abbreviation of Kalikala, the Arabic name of the Armenian city Karnoy Kaghak. This city, strategically located on the route to the Black Sea port of Trabizond between Persia and Europe, was famous for its Armenian rugs which were prized by the Arabs.
Q: i'm installng carpet myself and this sort of carpet usually requires the installation of carpet padding underneath. what would happen if i were to lay the carpet without the padding? i'm just trying to cut costs. the floor underneath is some sort of particle wood.
Carpet padding extends the life of carpet. Better quality padding is more important than carpet grade. It will last longer and look and feel much nicer! Do not glue to wood subfloor! That is just bad advice! Future cleaning would be next to impossible and leave stains from glue and rot out the particle wood.
Q: What material does carpet buy better?
Most wool carpets were made from wool before they could produce synthetic fibers. Wool is an animal fiber, tubular, and therefore breathing. When indoor moisture is long, wool can absorb moisture; it can release moisture when it is dry. This property not only enables wool carpets to regulate dry humidity in the room and prevents burning, but also prevents electrification in indoor air. Wool has a scaly surface, a good moisture absorption, and a water repellent function. So wool is difficult to be contaminated. In addition, the wool is spiral, curly, flexible and difficult to stick together. Wool is also easy to dye all kinds of colors, long service life. But wool carpets are expensive.
Q: This rug in in our appt. and because of leaking windows mold is starting to form, the rug is tan in color and bleach will stain please help
If it's black mold (the dangerous kind), you do not want to treat it. Put the carpet back (carefully), don't saturate or spray it, and seal off the room. You can open windows as long as it does not blow the harmful mold spores around the room or into the house through the air ducts. Make sure to seal off the air ducts and do not expose children or pets to the moldy area. The black mold spores can float through the house and will root everywhere - you need to have the mold tested, and removed by professionals if it is black mold. Not everyone will get sick from black mold spores, but if you are allergic to mold or have babies in the house, you could be living in a huge health risk.
Q: I have several cats, but only recently she decided to do her job on my area rug, yet she'll tinkle in the litter box...Any answers as to how I can get her back into doing both in the litter box...
When you find out let me know! The same thing happend with my cat. He will poop on any mat or rug i buy. Now he just poops on the floor and wont poop in his box at all. We have tried EVERYTHING, but we love him and would never get rid of him so we have accepted it.
Q: what is the best carpet cleaner for ditry cat hair filled carpets?
call around to some of the professional carpet cleaners, they will always have specials, I have 8 cats and white carpet, yes WHITE carpet, we use Stanley steamer about every 3 months we pay 150.00 for the upstairs, the top level of the house is 2700 square feet down stairs is all hardwood plus we spot clean if necessary, oh ya invest in a Dyson vacuum, they are awesome, you will never worry about hair again
Q: They prefer dry food to wet. I am feeding them IAMS kitten food....I have washed the throw rugs but what is best to use on the carpet and how do i keep them from peeing again? They were just at the Animal Coaltion in June...and were pronounced healthy....
You need a product that gets rid of the odor on the throw rugs and on the carpet. Go to your local pet store and ask for something that removes the odor left behind from cats urine.
Q: How to prevent the carpet from shedding wool?
shedding wool is inevitable, you can buy a new one or stick the wool with scotch tape.
Q: my mother in law is remodeling a house, and it has berber carpet int it. it is heavily soiled, but does not have the money in the budget to replace it. is there a carpet cleaning solution or homemade solution we can use...remember it is WHITE berber!
I'm not certain whether you are asking what to put in a steam cleaning machine or what you can use to clean it without using a steam machine. So, I'll answer both ways. If you want to use the cheapest means possible to clean carpet, remove odors and get down to the padding, a steam cleaner with 2/3 water and 1/3 vinegar will do it. Otherwise, use the detergent and solutions recommended for the type of machine you have or rent. If you want to clean the carpet without a machine, you have a couple of choices both are not expensive. You can use dry carpet cleaning granules, Resolve and Capture both make them. You just sprinkle them down, agitate into the fibers with a brush on a stick, let it dry and vacuum it up. Or you can use a foaming cleaner, like Woolite or Scotchguard Foaming Carpet Cleaners, use a damp mop to work it in and a brush to treat stains, allow that to dry and vacuum.
