- Q:I am doing wiring in my shed on preexisting light fixtures and outlets. the wiring that was disconnect from that carried the electricity to it. What I am trying to do is have all the light fixtures work of an extension cord. I have another extension wire connected to that with the +, - and 0 showing. The fixtures have 3 wires coming out of them what I think to be the power in, power out, and switch. On the fixture on the end I connected my extension cord thing and it work, BUT only that one. The rest of the fixtures did not work, I do see anything wrong. What I thought was that I was connecting to the switch wire so I changed it and it just buzzed with blue light. What is going on?
- A typical light fixture has three wires: black, white and green (or uninsulated copper). If there is no green or uninsulated copper wire, there is generally a ground terminal where the ground wire should be attached. The smaller of the two slots in the extension cord (assuming U.S.) is the hot wire and that's where the black wire should ultimately be connected. The white wire nuetral is connected to the other side, the wider of the two slots. The ground is connected to the U shaped terminal below the two slots. There must be a thousand websites with instructions on how to wire a light fixture. Try getting a diagram from one of them.
- Q:So on my ceiling fan I have a white, black, green, and blue wire. In the ceiling I have a green, white, black, red, and bronze wire. What gets connected to what? Thanks for the help!
- Typically bronze is ground so attach it to the blue wire. white is neutral so attach the two whites wires together. All the other colors in this example are hot or power, one will go to the lights on the fan and the other willpower the fan, In other words black to black and red, the blue wire in the picture is a grouned
- Q:Im wondering if this 24 awg wire is good for guitar wiring. Doesn't look like something that i usually would see people use when wiring, since there is lots of different wires and colour coding wrapped up inside it.
- Given okorder / I hope this will help with your decision. Good luck!
- Q:i know nothing about wire. thanks. :|
- Solder wire has a lower melting point, allowing you to melt it onto something else. In it's wire form, it will also snap very easily. (not good for fastening things together). Mechanical wire (I'm assuming electrical wire), is designed to withstand high temperatures (and hence, electrical currents), and are usually be bent much more. It's also usually sheilded in rubber (e.g. electrical cords, computer cables, coxial (tv) cable, etc).
- Q:What wires plug in under the center console of a 2000 firebird, there is a 5 wire plug that I can't figure out where it plugs into
- +1 for the LS1Tech site. I am a member and there is tons of info there and great people to help you out.
- Q:ok so i wired the subs to the amp now, the positive (Red) goes to the battery, the ground (Black) is currently grounded to the metal under my drivers seat. My question is does it matter the color wire is that goes to the stereo? Can i use a red or black? Does it really matter? If not, where exactly would i hook it up behind my aftermarket sony headunit?
- If your talking about a remote wire there should be a blue wire with a white stripe coming out of the wiring harness for your receiver/head unit... And run a wire from that to the remote terminal on your amp. All this does is send a 12v signal so when you turn the key on your car/truck it signals the amp to turn on. If your head unit does not have a remote wire you can run a wire from your amp to your ignition..
- Q:trying to put in a different radio, and take out the original radio, but don't know which wires are which. i tried doing it myself already, and now when i turn on my headlights, the taillights don't come on? but the turn signals come on and so do the hazards. did i snip a wrong wire or did one come loose?i only cut the wires that were attached to the stock radio.help please!thanks!
- Why did you cut ANYTHING?! All you had to do is buy the aftermarket harness, connect it to your new radio and plug it in to the factory harness. I bet you cut the wires right at the harness too so you can't reconnect it. My guess would be you hooked up the dimmer wire and you don't need it. Go buy a harness anyway, it will tell you what the wires are.
- Q:Hello,I'm trying to replace my old ceiling fan with a new one but i can't seem to figure out the wiring.I have three wires coming out of the ceiling: 1) Two white ones that were connected together when the old ceiling fan was installed2) A grey wireI have four wires in the new fan:1) Black2) Black and White (would connect with the black based on the instructions)3) Green Grounding4) WhiteCan you help me figure out the connections. Thanks!
- I wish contractors followed the wiring / building codes. The white wires are neutral wires that return the circuit back to the panel. Grey? where in the world did that come from BUT I have to assume that it's the hot wire from the panel. Black black with the white tracer to your grey wire. White to the white if at all possiable put a screw in the box with the green wire or at least wrap it around the screw from the horseshoe that you are putting in the box. Be sure that the switch is off. If it's wired properly there will be no hot wire in the ceiling box. The hot is open at the switch. That's why the light doesn't turn on. Follow me?
- Q:During a lab experiment, a straight piece of copper wire is connected across the terminals of an AC generator and the current through the wire was measured. If the wire is removed and a part of it is tightly wound into a loop of many coils and the wire is then reconnected to the generator, will the measured current through the wire be greater, lesser, or the same as it was before the wire was coiled? Explain your answer.
- Assuming the generator output voltage (RMS) remains constant the current will be less through the coil. By wrapping the wire into a coil it's resistance doesn't change but it's self inductance increases. AC in a wire produces an alternating (changing) magnetic field that is concentrated into a smaller space as a coil - so increasing it's strength and ability to link with the wire that produced it. When this changing magnetic field links (passes through) it's 'own' coils a self-induced 'back' EMF(voltage) is generated in the wire that opposes the 'forward' current from the generator (Lenz's law). If the geverator provides a pd = Vg and the back EMF = Vb, then the current in the coil is effectively being driven by a reduced pd = (Vg - Vb) .
- Q:the sensor part has 4 wires,(2 white,1 black and 1 red)each light has 1bl.and 1white
- If all else fails read the directions! Please read the directions that came with the motion sensor/outdoor light. They should have a color code in them somewhere that tells you what each color is and what it should be wired too. If you have any doubts hire a licensed qualified electrician to do it for you. You would be much better off if you don't think you are capable of doing it. If you do think you are capable make sure you turn off the breaker in the breaker box. (Not the light switch on the wall)
