What would happen to the dryer if it is turned on with these wires crossed? Consequently, my dryer's motor is not responding, however the heating element is working. Was there a short? Did the motor get fired?
- Red to black and black to red will make no difference to the dryer. The ground connection and the neutral connection must be in their correct positions. I suspect that you have another problem than the wire colors. Possibly a loose connection in the receptacle or in the terminal in the dryer. Call an appliance repair service, you may need some parts or a new unit.

- When wiring the Red and Yellow together, the radio will have constant power to it at all times. Try to rewire it so they aren't wired together so it doesn't keep on at all times, and as far as the memory issue, I suggest calling Pioneer, there could be a problem with the actual head unit.

- Electrocution happens when electricity finds a way to ground. Squirrels are not grounded so they don't get shocked. Ever watch the Discovery channel? They've shown how the power company works on high voltage lines without shutting the power off. A helicopter hovers next to the power line while a technician reaches out to the power line with a probe. Once contacted the helicopter and the technician are at the same potential voltage so nobody gets shocked. However, during approach they are NOT at the same potential. That's the reason for making contact with he wire with a probe first. So that the technician doesn't take a big hit when he first touches the live wire. So squirrels, birds, rats - anything that can land on the wires doesn't get electrocuted. But if an animal touches the wire AND ground (or another wire), it's all over in a blinding flash. Is this in a room with no ceiling light? Switched outlets are usually for a lamp to turn on as you enter the room. GFCI outlets are not designed to be switched on and off as both sides will go off. Is this room in a basement, kitchen, bathroom or near water pipes? You may not be required to have it GFCI protected. If you can and want a GFCI then try another outlet near by.

- A 2-wire smoke detector? You mean one that plugs into AC? You cannot wire those into any alarm system. If you had a 3-wire (for linking multiple AC-powered units), you might be able to connect an external 120vac relay that closes the alarm contacts when the third (often yellow or blue) wire is switched on. Hardwired smoke alarms for an alarm system get a 12vdc voltage from the panel and also have a pair of dry contacts that are either normally open or (more likely) normally closed until the sensor is triggered.
- Q: I bought a bathroom vent fan today, the one that was in there hasnt worked since we bought the house.
