- Current carrying wire does not have extra charge but only flow So there is no electrostatic force between them. The magnetic force is present only when current flows through both wires. If it flows in the same direction then they attract. So if the lower wire is fixed and you wish to suspend the above it must repel it to overcome the gravitational force due to earth acting on it. Hence the wires must carry currents in opposite direction.

The only protection you need for this wire is 12 of dirt and pipe where it comes out of the ground. You will have to use pipe on the side of your house and between the ground and light fixture with schedule 80 PVC or other rigid conduit. Remember before you dig to get a ONE CALL or diggers hotline to check for other buried cables/pipes. They can also tell you how deep the wire is if one is in the area of work.

- Most all of the wire used in an average home will carry 110 volts. If you're looking to install some new recepts or switches, then most likely #12 wire would work just fine. - Of the two incoming wires, one should be white (neutral) and one should be black (hot or power). The bath fan should have a neutral and hot also. A wiring diagram can usually be found on the fan unit if a manual is not available. Simply wire the white/neutral to the neutral wire of the fan and do likewise for the hot wire. For safety modern fans make accommodations for the attachment of a ground wire. This provides a path to ground should there be a short in the unit. Hopefully there is a third wire from the wall that will provide a ground. It is usually bare and should be attached to the fan using a green ground screw. Older homes did not have the third ground wire but unless your home is from the fifties, you should have three wires. (If your electrical outlets accommodate three prong plugs, you have grounded wiring). If your bath fan is relatively inaccessible (on the ceiling) not having it grounded might not be that big of an issue but it is always better to ground the bath fan frame when possible. Again, if you have or can locate the manufacturers wiring diagram it should be followed.

- Q: What are some of the basic advantages of twisted pair wiring?
- Lower noise due to inductively coupled current from interference sources, such as (say) a motor or AC power line. When a changing magnetic field is near a coil of wire, it induces a current in the wire. If that wire is your network cable, the current will be misinterpreted by the receiving NIC as voltage generated by the sender, which will cause packet corruption. With twisted pair wire, after a twist the magnetic field ends up creating a current in the opposite direction since the order of the wires has switched. Therefore, the current induced from adjacent twists of the wire ends up cancelling. (Assuming the magnetic field strength is consistent over the distance of 2 twists.)
