- hey! firstly, u must not use hot or warm water to clean rugs, it will fade the colors. put a small empty Tub under the efective area of the rug and pour cold water on that top of the spot. all the water will desolve in the rug and then gets into the tub under that spoted rug. I am in the rug business and im giving u a cleaning secret :) . Note: dont put ur rug in the direct sun to dry. TC

- Rug Doctor works great if you have a good strong person to get it from the place you rent it to your home and back again. Any more I prefer hiring a cleaning company that extracts the dirty water. Your carpet is almost dry when they get done and the carpet stays cleaner longer.

- I would suggest renting a carpet washer to clean up any excess. Polish remover does evaporate though, so you may notice a lot more of the smell in the air as it does if you don't clean the carpet. Polish remover - especially acetone polish remover - is a solvent and if the carpet is synthetic, it may cause it to break down and melt, though you'd probably have noticed that effect already. I know that it will dissolve certain finishes on wood surfaces though...

- I had the same thing happen with cream colored nylon carpet and used Awesome cleaner from the Dollar store and an extractor. Awesome is an amber colored fluid that comes in a spray bottle, and the extractor is Bissell Little Green Clean Machine. Worked perfectly. Having a white carpet is a challenge.
