- not with good adhesive, grout and good grout sealer if you used good 3/4 ACX Plywood I wouldn't worry about it.

- Q:i am going to be installing tile in my bathroom as a tub surround.i am wondering what backer board is needed. if i am using a membrane such as kerdi, is drywall a good enough backer or do i need cement board. if i need cement board, do i need the membrane? what products do you suggest for best installation. i will also be doing a walk in shower. are there any differences to be aware of compared to the tub surround shower style.
- Tile doesn't flex. Drywall does. You need a hard surface to lay tile, or the grout joints will crack, water will get in, and your tile will promptly fall off. Real tile backer board (the kind that's made out of fiber re-enforced cement) is the only decent solution for installing tile over a wood frame. Hardibacker or any other modern garbage designed to make something seemingly easier, just turns into a nasty headache a year later. Also be sure to use real thin-set mortar, and real grout. That adhesive grout is just acrylic caulking with some sand added, tiles will fall off if they get wet.
- Q:I've installed a fair amount of this stuff behind tub-surrounds & showers. I generally use a jig saw with a carbide blade, which promptly goes dull. Any experienced tile workers out there find a better way?
- You can use a masonry blade on a Skil Saw as previously mentioned, but for straight cuts I just use a utility knife and score the board, just like gypsum wall board. You may have to score it two or three times, but there is almost no dust this way.
- Q:hi my daughters room has cement sheeting (panels) that make up her walls and roof and it looks really bad. I can see the joining lines even though its been painted over - do i have to remove all the walls and have the walls re plastered? is there any handy hits to fix this up? not sure you could putty up the lines and sand back as the boards currently up have big grooves - i did think about wood paneling around the room but you would still have the roof issue and the board lines above the panels - looking for a cost effective solution. Thanks heaps
- Try papering with a heavily embosses paper. This will hide any cracks and lines. Use a different pattern for the ceiling.

- Q:Sorry for the double post, this is an addendum to my previous question. I am planning to re-tile the downstairs foyer. Since it's on the 1st floor of a townhouse with no basement I think there's cement slab underneath, but if I need backer board I need to purchase and make arrangements to cut (I don't own a saw yet). I'd like to take a couple tiles off to check, but how can I tell the difference between the two?
- By your question it sounds as if you intend to re-tile the floor, if so it will be concrete and you be able t tile straight over it once the other tiles have been removed and the slab made good for tiling.
