Fiber cement board composite wall system has good heat preservation, heat insulation and sound insulation performance, which make the system become an high and energy saving wall retaining system. The system could be applicable to the façade of steel or wood frame villa, and non bearing exterior wall for structural frame work or other frame structure.
- Q: I am going toceramic tile a commplete small brm do I have to drywall or can I just cement board T.Y.F.Y help?
- I prefer a cement board backer, particularly in the bath. Local code here does not allow for drywall inside the shower area.
- Q: i am going to be installing tile in my bathroom as a tub surround.i am wondering what backer board is needed. if i am using a membrane such as kerdi, is drywall a good enough backer or do i need cement board. if i need cement board, do i need the membrane? what products do you suggest for best installation. i will also be doing a walk in shower. are there any differences to be aware of compared to the tub surround shower style.
- Tile doesn't flex. Drywall does. You need a hard surface to lay tile, or the grout joints will crack, water will get in, and your tile will promptly fall off. Real tile backer board (the kind that's made out of fiber re-enforced cement) is the only decent solution for installing tile over a wood frame. Hardibacker or any other modern garbage designed to make something seemingly easier, just turns into a nasty headache a year later. Also be sure to use real thin-set mortar, and real grout. That adhesive grout is just acrylic caulking with some sand added, tiles will fall off if they get wet.
- Q: 911 polyurethane brush in the cement board is what is the bubble
- If the performance of the paint has special requirements, when ordering the paint, to advance to the paint manufacturers sales staff instructions, if necessary, and paint engineers to communicate directly. Please do not follow the experience of other ordinary paint to treat two-component paint, do not arbitrarily change the proportion of curing agent.
- Q: i would also like to know what products might help me. Thanks :) Oh, and the type of board i got is called hardi-bord... i didnt know if that might help.
- wow, some of these answers are terrible, I like the one where the guy says dont worry about taping and mudding the seams or the other one that said just double up the backerboard lol. Anyway, you should have a vapor barrier of some sort. Since you already put up the backerboard, you should tape and mud the seams then put a coat of Redgard(made by Custom Building Products, at Home Depot) over the backerboard. You can paint it on, its very easy. As far as the electrical box, if it was dry before then I would leave it as long as its not wrapping around any plumbing pipes.
- Q: Installation technology and process of external wall cement board
- Injection molding, foaming: then the slurry into the mold foam, foaming process for about 3-5 minutes; initial maintenance: after the completion of injection molding for several hours after the initial maintenance; stripping: foam foam insulation board to be completed Early cutting, with the initial strength can be stripping; cutting: with a certain strength of the foam insulation board blanks after stripping can be cut, cutting specifications according to the need to adjust the cutting blade; finished maintenance: foam cement insulation board maintenance Age should not be less than 7 days.
- Q: When I was replacing vanity in small bathroom, I discovered that old vanity was sitting on top of the wooden sub-floor while the rest of the floor (with ceramic tile) is about whole inch above the sub-floor. I'm planning to install tile (never did it before) and I've read that you attach cement backer board to sub-floor and use adhesive to attach tiles. However cement boards are sold in 1/2 thickness. What should I do to make whole sandwich (board, adhesive, tile) to be on the same level as rest of the tile floor? I'd much appreciate any suggestions! :)
- you can use floor leveller. you can but it at home depot,$35, follow the instuctions as far as how much water to add. it mixes into a watery slurry that levels it self once poured. it hardens as hard as cement and then you can glue your tile to it.
- Q: I used a razor but it killed the blade in about two seconds. Is there a special saw for this stuff that won't make a huge mess?
- It really doesn't matter how sharp the blade is. You're not actually cutting the board, you're scoring it. You can do that with a nail, if you had to. Don't bother pressing down too hard on the knife, it won't get you through the material any better. You just make three or four passes with medium pressure and snap it like sheetrock. As long as the blade hasn't gotten rounded at the tip, it will work just as good as a new one. Any type of saw is going to make a mess and isn't necessary.
- Q: We have an older house (1957) that has 1 thick beams as a substrate floor. Currently, there is 1/2 plywood on top of the substrate floor. We are going to rip this up so that we can apply mortar to the substrate for leveling purposes. We would put the porcelain tile directly on top of the cement board. The guy at Home Depot (a former contractor) said we can just use 1/2 cement board directly on top of the substrate floor without a layer of plywood underneath. The substrate is old, but sturdy real-wood diagonal beams that lay on top of the joists. He said they are plenty strong and we don't really need to add a plywood subfloor if we use 1/2 thick cement board. What do you think? Do you think we could get away will laying down cement board on top of the substrate floor without plywood for added strength? Thanks!
- If joists are spaced 24 inches then you need 1.5 inches of subfloor under the cement board. if joists are spaced 16 inches then you need 3/4 inches of sublfoor under the cement board Those are the generalities.
- Q: some say lay 15 pound paper what gives?
- It's actually a vapor/moisture barrier. And yes it should be put down when laying this kind of surface over wood.
- Q: I've taken up old linoleum tile, chip board, and two other layers of linoleum to get down to an oak floor in my bathroom. This has a felt-like paper uniformly adhered to it that must have been the backing for the first linoleum layer. I'm going to put down Hardi-backer, then tile. Do I have to take up the old tile backing material before I put down the hardibacker? It's very difficult to remove. Thanks!
- it is ok to go over that thin layer of paper
