Q: I've already tried carpet cleaner, nail polish remover, and bleach. Its black nail polish on a light beige carpet. Please help! Thanks.
It may be too late. Straight acetone (not diluted nail polish remover) is the best thing.
Q: Our dog chewed up a decent size chunk of carpet in our rental townhome. There is chunk pulled out and stripped about 6 inches from the wall in a corner. We live in a rented townhome so I know we're gonna take a hit to repair or replace it. My question is, can this possibly be repaired by cutting a portion out and just patching it with matching carpet? I know that the right people can make the seam pretty unnoticeable. Or, do you think they'll make us pay to replace the whole carpet?
Depends on the type of carpet that was installed. Some apts have a cheaper grade carpet in them and some times you just can t make a repair not show . Even a good seam job it may show because getting the exact same carpet you ll have a different dye lot and that sticks out worse than a bad seam. Even if you have a left over scrap pc the installed carpet can be dirty, ( even a cleaning won t get it back to the exact same) sun faded or even worn. This will all depend on the LL and what he/ she will accept. But be prepared to have to replace the carpet. If you have renters insurance , check into that. GL
Q: I have a rug that I need to wash but it says I need to front load wash it but I have a top load. If I top load wash it will it mess it up or will it be okay?
It depends on the size of the rug. I would say anything bigger than a 4 X 6 rug should not be washed in a top loader.
Q: My cat keeps scratching my carpet should i get her declawed oris there a way train her?
It shouldn't be too hard. All you need to do is to set up a behavioral modelling program. First of all, you have to punish your cat whenever it scratches the carpet (make loud noise, throw water or a unharmful object at her), but this punishment should not be too tough (so you it will not develop depression or anxiety) and it should be immediate. Secondly, you have to reinforce the cat's desired behaviour. Try to draw your cat's attention to the scratcher. Try to feed her only near it. Then after a few days, try to show the cat how to use it, by handling her claws on the scratcher. And then, anytime the cat makes that move (touching the scratcher) give it a reward, like it's favourite food. In time it should work out fine. All living creatures are designed to learn from the enviroment, so the cat will learn from you, especially since it's you who has all the food, and that's what it's all about. It work did, with my cat (it used to scratch the furniture legs). I hope it answered to something. (my cat also learned to run beside me, when i go jogging - but just around the house)
Q: 1600*800 what size carpet is appropriate below the tea table?
Carpet size should be determined by the size of the sofa, irrelevant to the tea table. In principle, it's as big as the virtual box occupied by the sofa, but move away from the TV, not all under the sofa. Just bigger than the coffee table is not, but the problem is easy to sit on the sofa when you sit on the edge, easy to edge.
Q: Okay, I'm buying my first carpet for the house. Help! What kind of things do i need to look out for? What's the deal with underlay? I'm 24, but i've never had to buy a carpet before as this is my first house, and i have no idea what i'm looking for.Any help will be greatly appreciated :)
ViVre pretty much had the answers for you. I used to sell carpet. You want to make sure you have a good installer as well. Sometimes if it's not stretched enough it will relax and develope ripples........if this happens, don't be afraid to call the installer back to restretch it. Also vacuum it every other day or so with a good vacuum. The info I gave you will help your new carpet last you a lot longer.
Q: I am going to pay to have my carpets cleaned. What is your opinion on the best way/method and service? (USA)
I have used the rug doctor and it does a good job. But I would recommend you hire a carpet cleaning service. With a rug doctor you really need 2 people and it's really not an easy job. I think the steamer method that the profressionals use is best because it doesn't leave any soap behind in the carpet which attracts dirt and the carpet will have to be cleaned again sooner.
Q: HI would like you guys opinion. Would an oval rug look good under a rectangular dining room table. Thanks in Advance.
A rectangular rug would look better under an oval table but you can do the oval rug under the rectangular table, as long as the rug is quite larger than the table... Otherwise, if the rug is too small and the table goes basically to the ends of the rug, the rug will look too small.
Q: How can I tear out the carpet in my bathroom (was already in there when moved in) and what tools will I need?
Pulling the carpet is no problem. It may just pull up by starting at an edge or you can help by simply cutting it with the mentioned above utility knife. BUT! Work carefully. You might have a cool floor underneath and you don't want to cut at it with the knife. And the carpet is held at the edges with a tack strip. Use care near them or the tacks will stick you and they hurt!! Sounds funny, but I use pliers to grab and pull.
Q: I have alot of eyeliner stains on my carpet, and was wondering the best way to get them out.I'm looking for something cheap considering i'm on 15.=]
try renting a steam cleaner
