Barbed Wire is suitable for industry, agriculture, animal husbandry, dwelling house, plantation or fencing.
- Q: alright, 5 speakers with 4ohm svc, what would my wiring options be?
- With 5 speakers there won't be a symmetral wiring pattern for even power distribution. With 4 it would be 2 pair in parallel with both sets in series for a 4 ohm final load or all 4 in parallel for a 1 ohm final load.
- Q: A thin wire connected to a light bulb will have the bulb shine dimmer than a thicker wire. What is the scientific reasoning for this?
- Thin wires are usually used to make heat because there is more resistance going through a thin wire. In an incandesent bulb 60% OF THE OUTPUT IS HEAT. If thee is thicker wire, more electrons go through and the light can be brighter.
- Q: I removed my range hood (switched off the electricity for it first) and there are three wires coming out of the wall. There's a white insulated, black insulated, and totally not insulated copper wire. What is the non-insulated copper wire? When I flip the electricity on, will it have a charge? It was weirdly wrapped around a screw in the box with the wiring...I'm not sure if it was doing anything. Thanks!
- The copper wire is for ground. If there's a short, it is supposed to send the electricity into metal that leads into the soil. When you flip the switch, no charge should be in the copper wire... unless there is a short. Screw the weirdly-wrapped screw into something metal. If you have a metal utility box, screw it onto that, and you're range will be safe if there is a short.
- Q: I had recently closed up an outlet by taking the four wires and capping them off. Only to find out the two of the wires were for the ceiling fan power. I have a black and a white wire newer travelers to the ceiling fan, and two old cloth wires which look black. I do have an electrical tester and just want power for the fan, I will cover up the outlet. What wires go where ?
- Wire nut the old hot wire to the black and the old neutral to the white. Connect the grounds together also. Find which is the old hot with your tester. Not with your finger. Good grief.
- Q: I am connecting a humidstat to furnace. I would normally use furnace/thermostat wire for this purpose except that I need 8 conductors and the largest furnace/thermostat wire seems to be 5 conductors. I would like to use another 18guage 8 conductor wire but not sure if there are any specifications I need to ensure it meets before I can use it inside furnace cabinet.
- Standard 18 gauge wire is all you need, they do make it in 8 and 10 conductor, it just takes a little calling around to supply houses to find it. There's is nothing special about the wire specs for thermostat wire as it relates to your furnace so long as you use 18 gauge standed or solid wire. The only exception for thermostat wire is when you get into commercial buildings with an open plenum return air system, any wire used in the plenum cavity must be plenum-rated, which is almost always much more expensive.
- Q: EL wire, or electroluminescent wire, is a wire which... well glows pretty colors lol. I want to buy some to make a costume, but I have some questions. I have a feeling that it will degrade over time, but how long will it take? Or do they start to degrade immeidately like glow sticks? What is it that causes them to glow, a chemical reaction or something else?
- Electroluminescent okorder ) have wire that lasts far longer. You can expect the shelf life of these wires to be about 4-6 years. At that time, the wire just doesn't stop working, it slowly breaks down the phosphor particles, and the wire will get dimmer over time. The expected working life of EL Wire is about 4-6,000 hours which beats your average glow stick by about 5,992 hours...
- Q: I got the Rem wire down connected it to cd deck. But what does Rem stand for and what does it do?Remote Wire? what the hell it do where it run off?
- The Remote wire is a wire (usually Blue or Blue/White) that comes out the rear of the Head Unit (CD Player) that supplies a +12V output when the Headunit is powered up and switches off when the Headunit is powered down. Some head units have a Remote and System Remote, in this type of system the system remote is as described and the Remote switches on and off when you switch between Radio and CD, this feed is usually used for an electric antenna or to power a booster.. -Daz
- Q: I have a 1983glastron cvx-16 and need to wire the lights, tach horn fuel guage there are 2 wires coming off the fuel guage one pink from the center and the other looks to be comming off of a bracket not conacted to the tanks fuel guage
- 1989 Johnson J70TLCEM with controls in 1984 18' blue fin. Need to wire the gauges, found a new harness(NLA original) but has correct plug. Purple,Black,Gray. which one goes to which gauge? I suspect Tach,Volts,Trim but not sure. Harness was made by Medallion but their web sight dosen't seem to want to give up any info
- Q: Hi, I've got two new appliances (range hood fan/light and bathroom exhaust fan). Both are installed but not wired. My house is older, build in 1940s and the previous appliances were wired using the existing copper wiring which runs through the house. I'd like to electrically install these new appliances but am concerned about connecting the new appliance wiring (aluminum wiring i think?) to the copper wiring in the house. Is it safe to pigtail these two wires together? Or is there a better, more safe method? Thanks
- The appliance wiring is not aluminum, tinned (annealed) copper. It is safe to connect to the copper building wire. Theoretically if you scrape the wire you could skin the tin off and see the copper, but never been able to successfully accomplish that. If you really are worried it using an antioxidant will not hurt anything, but really it won't help. If you look at the cord you will find various letters, if you look up those letters on the net you will find that some have rubber. Rubber is corrosive to copper so the wire is covered in tin.
- Q: I am re wiring a hanging lamp. I know the black wire is the hot. My problem is this, the replacement wire is gold. There is no apparent groove in the wire, but one side does have writing on it. If I remember correctly the side with the writing is the hot?
- Check the cord that you are using. Feel it with your fingers and try to find a ridge on one wire or the other. This is the indicated conductor that would usually be the neutral or white side of the lamp socket. This is the shell or outer side of the lamp holder. At the plug end it should go to the larger blade of the cord cap. It may also have a thread in one of the wires. As long as it is consistent and the neutral is wired to the shell the electricity does not care which wire it goes through. The issue is when someone wires the line side or the smallblade of the plug to the outside or shell of the lamp. Too many so called electricians on here have no clue about how to wire any thing. If in doubt at all, call a qualified professional electrician to do the work.
