- Q:I switched on the pump and smoke came out of it, i opened the pump n found it hadsome water probably caused the shock. How to repair it or is it dead?? ** its not a wellpump just a normal one that pump the water to the tank from a small reserve
- All electrical things work on smoke - once the smoke escapes then they don't work. Seriously if water got into the works it’s probably burned out and needs to be replaced - having the motors rebuilt on these things usually costs more than a new one. More details click the following link…
- Q:One repair shop on the phone says I will need new water pump, coolant flush and *850.00. On the other hand the dealer says I may need tow other drive belts (alternator +). Second dealer says I may need a water pump! I do not wish to get stuck with extra costs! any one with experience?
- On a 10 year-old car, if those parts have never been changed, then it's a good time to do it. The alternator and other belts have to come off to do the timing belt. The water pump is in there, too. When it fails, then the same parts you're just having replaced have to be removed to replace it. The incremental cost to replace the belts and water pump when you're replacing a timing belt is little more than the parts themselves. It's relatively cheap insurance against additional expense in the future. Finally, if the water pump is being replaced, the coolant has to be drained anyway. If the coolant is more than 3 years old, flushing/replacing it is recommended anyway. Just be sure that the shop isn't billing you the book time for each of these jobs individually. By doing it all together they have significant time (and cost) savings.
- Q:I have a 99 Olds Intrigue With the 3.8L (Vin K) engine. I have a belt driven water pump, but i was wondering if there is a fuse or relay that is associated with this water pump. I remember knocking a fuse out on accident while changing my radiator and now the water pump appears to not be working

- Q:My 2000 Chevy Cavalier (2.4L) has been overheating pretty majorly (within a 10 minute drive!) when it's been super cold out, about 5F. I took it to the shop and they told me it was my water pump. Right after getting out of the shop, the problem went away for an entire week and the car's temperature has been at exactly what it's been for years - never past 195. It seems to be back now, though not as severe. It's about 20F now.Could the weather have to do with this??Why would the problem go away like that?I'm female and definitely do not seem educated walking into a shop so they can really tell me anything and I'll buy it. I just wanna see if the problem going away like that makes any sense, or if I should just wait out long trips until it warms up outside. It doesn't look like I'm losing coolant, though my low coolant light goes in and out.I have no idea. Thoughts?Thank you!!
- The thermostat is on it's way out..and is sticking closed. Get a new thermostat installed and the engine coolant flushed and filled with a 50/50 mix. If it were the water pump you would have been loosing coolant and the problem would not have been intermittent. Take it to another shop as they are trying to rip you off for a water pump. Replacing a thermostat and flush is not that expensive ..
- Q:The water pump doesn't seem to be leaking but I do have a leak under the engine in a place I can't get to. The water doesn't seem to be getting to the upper hoses of the engine. I do hear a odd sound like lose rocker arms but its hard to tell where its coming from. This engine is to big for this boat there is no room to work on it except to pull the engine. What was Four Winns thinking??? A simple fix is a major repair. Thanks
- drive your boat as fast and far as you can. at that point you will find if anything is broken. i say if it ain't broke don't fixit!!! if it brakes then you know what to fix. since it hard to get to your water pump just take your motor out and rebuild the whole thing. welcome to boating.
- Q:i have a 2000 chevy malibu (i know it sucks) i fixed the intake manifold gaskets (upper and lower) thermostat and its still leaking and sometimes overheating. my next thought is its the water pump. there's no crack in the radiator or hoses is there anything else that can cause it to overheat besides these. what about vacuum leakage? o2 sensors?
- some other possible causes of overheat: lean mixture inadequate oiling poor circululation due to restriction in water lines
- Q:I've been looking online and can't find anywhere that tells me how to replace the water pump in my 1999 Volkswagen Jetta 2.0. Help please.
- Go down to your local Auto Parts Store and ask for a Hayne's Manual for your car, this will show pics and explain in detail how to do just about ANYTHING on your car!
- Q:I have an 1982 El Camino 305 small block and am having troubles with determining if it is the gasket or the pump. I can't quite locate a leak, but it seems to centralize from the water pump and drip down the hose to the radiator. After my engine gets hot, which mind you my temp light has never turned on, and I shut of my car steam rolls out from behind my pump. I think it is the pump and please be it so. (Easier and cheaper fix. Replacement with a inexpensive part XP.)
- Most likely it is the water pump... Probably leaking from the weep hole at the bottom of the pump and coolant is running down the lower hose. Head gaskets blowing on a small block Chevy is pretty rare unless you have ran it HOT!, which you have said you have not done. Use an inspection mirror and look under the pump just behind the pulley and see if the coolant is coming out of the weep hole. Small block Chevy water pump is inexpensive to buy.. Good luck
- Q:Hi there: my water pump is leaking, and my coolant lelel keeps droping, same problem. Im not sure if coolant flows through the water pump?
- It sure does. That's what gets coolant from the radiator into the engine. Water pumps are a little weird. Sometimes you just get a dud, sometimes the one in your car never ever quits. I've got one of the latter, my dad went through about five of the former (on one car). Check your manual. If the pump isn't built into the block, it may be pretty simple to switch it out for yourself. If it's an inside-the-block kind, I'd recommend letting the shop do it. Replace all the old gaskets with new ones. Be sure to scrape off every bit of the old gasket, torque the bolts to the correct level, drive it for a few hours and torque them again. Happy motoring!
