Q: In my bathroom, I have a ball-joint sink valve. Which means its a single rotating handle. Pushing it up turns it on. To the left, hot water. To the right, cold water. My dilemma is, if I push it all the way to the left, no water comes out. If I rest it in a certain position to the left, it sputters, and eventually cuts off altogether. In other words, its a pain in the butt to get hot water out. Im assuming it needs to be repaired, but could it also be that it is an energy saving faucet? As Im not sure.Anyways, if you are knowledgeable in the area of plumbing, I would greatly appreciate your diagnostic if you have one. Even if it isnt right at all, Id still be grateful for input.: Depends on how handy you are. Sound like there is sediment clogging the openings. If you want to tackle the job yourself, then go under the sink and turn off both valves in the lines to the faucet. Then remove the retainer ring around the handle. May have to remove handle with allen wrench first and then the retainer ring. Lift out the ball and check for any clogs internally in it. Remove carefully the rubber O rings in the cavity where the ball was, and then put a rag over the fixture and slowly turn on the valves under the sink to flush out the lines. When lines are running clear, then replace the rubber O rings and then the ball and retainer ring.

At one point we had purchased a Moen faucet, but the new faucet had like rigid pipe connections whereas the old one has what appears to be soft copper much smaller pipe connections. Im just wondering if this is something that is not easily done. Do they still sell the faucets with the soft copper lines? Or do we need a plumber to do this?: it is easy. get a plumbing basics book, from the library, friend or buy one. if the connections are screw on you will easily find replacements connections that go from the the shut-off valves to the new faucet , otherwise some basic plumbing will be needed.

If it were a mainline stoppage all fixtures would be plugged and you would have sewage in your tub or shower because it the lowest point. Dont buy draino first. Try taking the pop up drain plug out and remove any hair or debris thats collected. You can also try a plunger which works best when you plug the overflow hole with your finger or wet rag. Its usually hair caught on the bar that moves the stopper up and down.
