Q: my sink has a stench coming up from the drain i believe. not sure what it is or how it got to smell so bad, but seems like it only comes up when i turn the water on(like the water gets the smell moving). really dont know what to do here? any advice?: Hi This smell must be coming from the cat litter. Remove all old litter & wash boxes. Soak boxes with 1/4part clorox & 3/4water for at least an hour. Remove cats from area & close door so they don't try to get into it. Rinse boxes thoroughly & dry, preferably in the sun. Refill with fresh cat litter (with baking soda if possible). All of the ammonia smell should be gone! =) Hope it works for ya!

Q: My washing machine is next door to my downstairs bathroom. When the washer empties its water, the water comes up through the bathroom sink and sometimes even overflows. My washing machine used to drain into my kitchen sink due to a partial blockage and it will get worse if not taken care of. I had a plumber unblock it for me only to have it happen about a year later. This time, I bought a snake and worked it out myself. Recommendations: you can put a lint trap on the end of your drain hose. You will be amazed at how much lint comes out with the drain water. An inexpensive way to do this is to use a piece of nylon (like pantyhose). Cut a piece big enough to form a pouch to catch the lint. Secure it to the hose with a hose clamp or some other sort of item. Rubber band, etc. Tight enough so it does not slip off and into the drain. Get a bottle of Drano gel, (like 32 oz) add the bottle into the drain. Let it sit overnight, then flush the next day with hot water, even boiling water if you want. You may have to do this twice. I did but it may not be necessary since you do have some drainage. You may want to do the Drano thing about once a year as a preventative but see how the lint trap thing goes.

Q: I have a new vanity and the last few weeks when i run the water a terrible smell comes from the sink opening after a few minutes it goes away. Any ideas -THANKS.: the only thing i can think of is that maybe the toilet is sucking the water out of the sink s j trap pipe. look under the sink and you'll see what i'm speaking of. that trap pipe is supposed to always have water in the curve of the pipe so the SEWER PIPE AIR cant make it past that trap. now i've never heard of that happening, but it's the only thing i can think of that will cause that problem.
