Q:What problem should pay attention to if laying carpets on the first floor, does need to lay a damp proof film?: There is a skid?resistant mat on market, paving under the carpet is ok, and if it is not too damp, do not have to lay the moisture-proof film.

Q:My landlord recently replaced my nasty old carpet, but this new one isn't that great either. It got flat almost immediately, granted we also have kids, and I want to fluff it back up but I haven't been very successful. I sweep it after I vacuum so I can get it soft and fluffy but it takes ALOT of work and doesn't last for more than a couple of hours. Anybody know how to help?: Your carpet is probably Polyester, made from recycled plastic bottles. It is often times made to look like Nylon carpet, however, it does not stand up to traffic and eventually will not stand up at all. This carpet is fairly inexpensive and therefore attractive to landlords. They are reluctant to have expensive Nylon carpet installed because the chances of it being permanently abused and stained by renters is great. We find quality carpet in only the higher end apartments where the people who can afford the higher rent are normally better educated and easier on the premises as a whole. You, no doubt are a careful renter, however, the law of averages is at work here. Call a carpet cleaner and purchase a grooming rake from them, it may help somewhat.

Q:My landlord is finally replacing the carpet in my apt. But he's not going to pay to have it installed. It's not my responsibility to pay it's his responsibility to pay for the carpet and installation right.: This is always a tricky situation but the landlord should cover all expenses during the install and hash it out later. Was this carpet ruined from normal wear and tear do to years of rental ... or ... was it ruined by you, a pet, a guest, etc. If it is not your fault then I would get an attorney to sue the landlord. Normal wear and tear is a landlords legal responsibility for their property. If it was something you caused then you're lucky they are covering the carpet at all. In most cases the property owner/landlord will cover the expenses upfront and then deduct it from your security deposit.

Q:We have been working out on the carpet in our basement for 6-7 months in the same spot. Now the carpet is rock hard from us working out on it. Is the carpet / padding ruined? Is there something we can do so the carpet doesn't' t get ruined?: You more than likely have crushed the fibers on the carpet. Depending on the type of carpet you may or may not get them to fluff or come back up. The padding also depends on the quality.A decent pad will come back but I m willing to bet it won t and you ve crush that permanently. Only thing to prevent this in the future id to stop working out on the carpet and onto a hard surface. Puttin a hard mat over the carpet will still crush the fibers. Q:I want to make a bathroom rug/mat for around the toilet with a piece of carpet. how can I cut the carpet in that shape: Start with any thing from cardboard ,construction paper to just plain newspaper and cut your shape you want and for a nice shape and cut to fit around the stool. Mark the top and bottom with a marker. Turn your carpet pc over and set you template cut out over this remembering to turn that over too. Cut carpet from the back side, cutting just through the carpet backing. Best to use a regular carpet knife but the next best is a utility knife or sometimes called a Stanley knife. These work better than a box cutter but a box cutter will work. Careful not to cut to deep and cut the flooring or surface below.. Old pc of plywood works well since then you can cut through harder. Trim fibers with scissors but don t use scissors to try and cut the backing. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar. GL

Q:every time i leave the housemy cat pees the rug even when we are sleeping. we have tried every thing with the viniger and that stufff that cleens the rug and takes away the odor. the rug is by the window cill and there are some stray cats running around outside. every time she does is we flick her nose and put her in our bathroom. plz help i`m tired of scrubbbing my carpet.: I know this may sound gross, but buy some Summers Eve Douche, the Vinigar and Baking Soda, and is your cat Spayed? If not, this may be the problem, if she can hear tomcats outside, this may be her way of saying I wanna night out with the boys! The Summers Eve will totally get rid of the odor, and the baking soda in the douche will absorb any surrounding odors! And......you could buy a second litter box, and place it under the window sill! And if you buy a sprayer, and some rubbing alochol, it will keep your cat away from that area! Don't let her eat it though, it will make her sick! But I would take her and get her spayed if she isn't already! Perhaps she has an UTI..... We need a few more facts.....did you have a second cat who recently found a new home, or passed on? She may be depressed....were you previously home more often, and are now going out more? Maybe she has seperation anxiety.....without knowing the whole story, it's hard to say!

Q:I spilled hot hair removal wax on my carpet in two places in my aparment. A. Is there any way to remove the wax from the carpet. B. If there is not a way to remove it, does the whole carpet in the room have to be replaced or just the small area? C. How much does this generally cost. I would rather just pay for it myself than have the landlord try to bill me for it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.: well if it wasnt a whole lot then i think you can get it out. my daughter spilled candle wax, quite a bit, on her carpet. at any superstore you can get a product called goof-off or something like that in the paint dept. it took all of the wax out and did not discolor the carpet at all good luck

The covering helps keep the floor warmer lowering your electric, gas or propane bill. I hsf carpet at my lst home, dirty and old. We put throw rugs on top of it to cover the stains. My grandmother (mema) has wooden floors in each room except the bedrooms. They are old and stained, even after being cleaned. It is time for new carpet in those rooms. .
