The carpet has not been cleaned for three years, and is very dirty. The stain was pretreated immediately after the incident, but never got out. I am going to clean the carpet now, and here is my plan. I am going to get - 1 Rental Bissell Big Green Deep Cleaner- 1 Bissell Spotbot- 1 box of Borax- 1 box of OxycleanWhat should I use as the carpet cleaning solution? Have any pretreat recommendations? Have any suggestions?
- When you rent the carpet cleaner, there will be cleaning solutions there that you can buy. Use the Oxyclean to pretreat, but do not put it or the Borax in the carpet cleaner machine. They will ruin the machine and then you will have to pay for it or for repairs. Use only the cleaning solutions that are recommended. Ask the person who is renting the machine to you. They know what cleaner to use for what stains. If you have not cleaned your carpet for over 3 years, you may have to do some heavy traffic areas 2 or 3 times to get all the dirt out. But it's worth it, as you will see. I would pretreat the blood stains with the Oxyclean, as directed on the box/canister. Good Luck!
- Q: i'm installng carpet myself and this sort of carpet usually requires the installation of carpet padding underneath. what would happen if i were to lay the carpet without the padding? i'm just trying to cut costs. the floor underneath is some sort of particle wood.
- yes, I was just reading that there is one carpet pad that is really expensive that outlives the life of the carpet. Forget which one, but it's a very rare pad. Generally speaking, the carpet pad goes bad before your carpet and then your carpet starts to take the abuse, which causes wear. So if you are replacing carpet because it's worn out...you need a new pad. And get a good one so your new carpet will last longer. Just remember, a good carpet pad takes the abuse so your carpet doesn't. Your installer should explain to you what the best kind is for you.

- gotta love the first little baby bumps. no quick cures that i know of for rug burns, but some good lotion like aquaphor will help it heal and if you coat her nose with it before a crawling session it may act like a buffer lol. you could use neosporin so no scars, but i don't like putting that stuff on my babys face. my daughter gets the rug burns on her knees and elbows now that she is a little older. try getting her some babylegs to put over her legs (or arms if she'll let you) to prevent rug burns there. i have started making my own to match all her outfits lol. they're addicting! when it's hot here, i just let her crawl around with her dipe on and babylegs, nothing else. so they're usable in all weather. (best thing to use them for is the gap between the bottom of her pants and her socks when you put her in a carrier or stroller in the cold weather)

- They have the exact one at Home Depot, you can even order the size you want. I do not know if you will find it online though, I just know my local store in Glendale,Az has it. Those prices that are on that website above are outragous!! I have the same one in the grays/tans/teals, I only paid about $260.00 for two custom sized rugs, and they are huge!! One is 12 by 14.

- Oxy Clean Laundry Detergent will permanently harm the carpet dyes if the carpet is Nylon. I've seen this a hundred times. If you do use a enzyme as recommended, use these instructions. Mix the product with warm water, pour it on the pet stain, place a damp white terry cloth towel or wash cloth over the stain, pat it down flush with the carpet, and allow the solution to dry. The digested urine will wick it's way up into the terry cloth towel. Pet/animal urine stains are about the worst kind of stain you can get on your carpeting. Bacteria will begin to grow in the alkaline urine salts shortly after the staining takes place. These bacteria will grow and produce ammonia type odors which will eventually dull your olfactory senses. Before long, you will no longer notice the hideous smell emitting from the carpet. The urine penetrates through the carpet, carpet pad, and right to the floor. Topical treatments will not work because they do not go deep enough to reach the bacteria.Unless your pet/animal wears underwear, keep it off of the carpeting, furniture, and bedding. This pet is on it's way to costing you a fortune.
