Q: We have a large carpet that we want to cut and lay over our cream one (to save it as we have a two year old) The carpet WILL fray and become untidy and we have heard that it will cost 80p per 12 inches to get it 'overlocked' or is it called 'binding' (the edges sewn up so it doesnt fray) and we just cant afford it as the measurements are 16 feet x 9 feet = ?40 (odd)... Ive done a little research and have come across 'double sided carpet tape' (?) also I see something else 'GLUE'.. that can be used. Does anyone out there know how we would do it... the tape AND glue (?) Can someone give me step by step instructions or directions on how to stop this carpet from coming undone and fraying. Thank you very much indeed. x
Paint the back side of the carpet with a latex glue. This product is used to make repairs to the edges of expensive wool rugs.
Q: I recently moved a couch and chair which was in the same position for 3 years on carpet. Any suggestions how to raise up the indent that is in the carpet. Thank you.
Depends on the type of carpet you have but there are two tricks that generally work. The 1st way is to set an ice cube(s) on the indent. Carefully work up the pile as the cube melts, A hair pick works well for doing this. The other trick ( if you have a heat set carpet fiber) is to CAREFULLY inject steam into the dent. Use an iron and do steam on the dent as you work at the fibers with a hair pick. You can also put a damp hand towel ( very warm water) on the dent along with a steam injected into the dent. Extreme care must be used doing it this way as not to melt the carpet fibers. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar. GL
Q: Carpet laying mainly includes fixed type and unfixed type; It can be paved all over the room or partially.
Fixed laying. There are three methods for this laying: ① Paste method. When the carpet is pasted with the leveling layer, glue adhesive shall be applied around the carpet, the glue width shall be 100-150mm, and the glue amount shall be 0.05kg per square meter; You can also use adhesive to paint several 1m square squares on the ground, and then pave the carpet. ② Hook fixation method. This method is to use steel nails to install wooden strips with hooks on the ground around the room, and then tension the carpet and hang it on the hooks. The hook is about 25mm wide and about 20mm away from the wall. ③ Batten fixing method. Place 20mm around the carpet × 30mm or 10mm × 25mm wood batten, batten and carpet nailed to concrete floor with special steel nails.
Q: Me couple of friends are looking to get carpet to do up a quot;cubby housequot;. Crap carpet seems to be 90 to 100 dollars per broadloom metre new. Obviously it does not have to very good quality. Is there any wayyy cheaper solution to this? (South of Perth, Western Australia)
Go for it, It sounds fab... :)
Q: We had to take our area rug outside for a cleaning and now it is raining. The rug probably will remain wet for at least 36 hours. Are there steps we can take to prevent mildew from setting in?
Another tip: Allow your carpet to dry flat... dont roll it up or anything... maybe get a hook hanger and hang it by your dryer... so the heat can dry it a bit faster! :) thats all i got! good luck! :)
Q: One night, I was bored, so I decided to use the carpet cleaner on the carpet. The next day, I needed to use the computer for various reasons, which was in the room I used the cleaner on. I went in and went on the computer, until my mom found me on, and told me that you can't step on wet carpet, otherwise it grows mold. She got that from a professional cleaner. So, does anyone know if its true or not?
Stepping on carpet isn't going to make it mold, Mold can start to grow within 4 hours of carpet getting wet, You need to get some air circulating on that carpet . it should only take a couple of hours to dry, Put some fans blowing on it or any way you can get air movement, Open the windows or do all of these thing It sounds like you saturated the carpet , this is a common mistake people make cleaning there own carpets, good luck
Q: What is the best way to remove cat vomit stains from carpet?
I've had two cats that would overeat until they vomited. I think it was related to being abandoned kittens. Anyway, this is what I do on my champagne colored carpet: Pick up what I can with a paper towel, use the vacuum extension hose without the wand and suck it out of the fibers, Spray it with the liquid RESOLVE carpet cleaner and let it soak in for 30 minutes. Then I get a WHITE towel and rub the area clean. I get the vacuum attachment again and suck out the RESOLVE, the stain, suck up the fibers so they're standing up. Tomorrow, you can run the vacuum over the area and it'll all blend in. I get liquid spray RESOLVE at the grocery store for five bucks, but it's cheaper at Walmart. My carpeting has been through 4 cats and is 20 years old. Still looks pretty good.
Q: How do I make a woven carpet?
The same pile of raw materials, cashmere yarn processing different, such as twisting yarn, textured yarn, carpet yarn and filament textured yarn production, its price is higher than the general production of carpet filament.
Q: We are looking for the best on the market, not the cheapest.
You shouldn t use a true pad or sorts. The best I ve seen for area rugs in a line called Rug Hold. Its a non skid underlay ment for rugs. Come in a wide variety of sizes and types . The type you need is for rug over hard surface. Now there are some felts that can be added to the backing of a rug but w/o seeing yours its hard to say if you can add it or not. Any padding for carpet will not work properly and actually be a tripping hazard, even a thin 1/4 rubber pad. Any question you can e mail me through my avatar. GL
Q: Hi everyone, how do i take a plain white area rug and make a black floral design on it on parts of the rug? like on two corners and maybe a swirl or two in middle ? i know ive seen people use templates and literarly spray or paint over template to make design. then use a sealer or something i dont know :( help thank you
I did a design on an outdoor sisal type rug and it came out really nice. I used spray paint and sealed it with polyurethane. You can get the templates at a craft store or make one yourself. There might be a problem if there is a high pile on the carpet. The design might not have clean edges. You could try one section of it on the back of the rug. Or get a carpet remanent with a pile like you have on your white carpet to try. If the design does not have clear edges you might be able to touch it up with a tiny paintbrush. I don't think a dye (like Rit Dye) would work. It would run and make a mess. I think you would have to stick to a surface treatment only-like spray paint.
