- Q: i was told that steam cleaning a carpet that has a bad odor will actually cause that odor to remain in the carpet forever. the reason i ask is i plan on renting a house with a buddy of mine and the carpet in the house smells of urine, previous owner had like 4 dogs and 6 cats. smells bad but it is still tolerable. the renter told us if we paint and steam clean the carpets our first month is free. sounds good to me. but will steam cleaning the carpet with my bissel steam cleaner cause the odor to be quot;bakedquot; into the carpet for ever. or would it be better to buy the stuff you sprinkle on and then just vacum a couple of times?
- A steam cleaner is the best method. I have never heard of it trapping odor in forever. We just steam cleaned our carpet and it worked wonders, we have 2 dogs and 2 cats. The dogs had some accidents, so we had to clean it. Get a carpet cleaning solutions for pet odor's and make sure to use the hottest water that you can, it will help. You can get a carpet cleaner at Food City, Lowes-If you have one where you live for $21.00 a day. Oh and by the way, cat urine smell is just not going to come out, that smell will just linger and doesn't get better. Good Luck!

- Hi, former floor covering business owner here-yes you can purchase carpet glue and a syringe from Home Depot, Lowes, possibly Menards. If you are unable to find it there ask a local carpet store if they would sell you some. Tell them it is in a commercial area and is a safety hazard. They generally do not want to do the carpet repair for you and consider the job too small, and if they did they would charge a large labor fee. It could be that the surface (debris left on floor)the glue was originally placed on was not prepared properly or the environmental conditions(too cold, too hot) were not favorable. Also,perhaps the glue or carpet was defective. We were surprised to receive so many defective products and carpet and constantly found that we would have to consult our area representative to rectify customer complaints. - Q: Yo!My apartment floors are horrable tiles in the living and bed rooms and I hate it! It's cold and cracked up and ugly. Anyways, we started looking at area rugs but for the sizes we would need to cover most of the rooms we are only finding ones that cost like $1,000 - and we can't afford that - and thats at places like kohls and target, places I thought would be cheap. Are there any websites where I can buy large area rugs for cheap? Or could I even buy the kind of rugs they usually install but not install it? Where would I get that? At this point anything is going to look better then these stupid tiles!
- Has a some reasonably priced carpeting solutions. Also give Lowe's a shot, their website is no indicator of the deals they usually have going on in the stores. My lady and I got a nice area rug for 150 dollars 8-15' and it's not a butt ugly pattern. Oh and check out the bargain racks at your local furniture warehouse, they've always got good deals on products they often can't sell quickly.
- Q: what is the difference between steam cleaninig and deep cleaning? I don't think we have very dirty carpet but it was always suggested by our carpet cleaner (by the way - I hate how they always upsell their services). anyways - I want to have another carpet cleaning soon in the spring and would like to be more educated about this.Bottom line is - if 'steaming cleaning' does not clean... why bother having such service in the first place?
- Well, i have to agree with you about steam cleaning. It has been my choice and if done correctly, it does the job. Pre-treating any stains is a must. I do not care for deep cleaning shampoo cleaners. Shampoo cleaning to me, just grinds the dirt down into the carpet and nothing takes it out. Make sense? One mistake i made tho when my carpet was brand new 8 years ago, was that i cleaned it very often. MISTAKE! in order to retain the stain resistant effectiveness of your carpet, you aren't supposed to clean it but about once a year. that doesn't mean you can't spot clean. Somehow when you steam clean, it can get too wet under the padding and cause problems, and the stains come back through. I haven't tried the businesses that use the needle injection cleaning under the padding. Expensive. But also, my mistake was, that after cleaning so often, i didn't spray the carpet with scotch guard after wards, not knowing i had cleaned it so much till i wore off the original stain resistant. voiding my warranty. Any way, hope this makes sense to you. Actually i have done just as good a job renting a steam cleaner and doing it myself as the professionals did, for a whole lot less. I just make sure i get a clean machine and i really look it over good first. I mean, shoot, the professionals use the same machine on other peoples carpets before they do ours. Good luck tho.
