- Don't waste your time on trying to clean out the stench. If you cannot replace the carpet, the second best thing to do is cover the area with a rug or leftover pieces of carpet until that area of carpet can be replaced.

- to repair your carpet, you will need a carpet knife,level or square to guide your cutting.,double sided carpet tape, tape measure, first measure out the area you need, make sure it is prepped by squaring the area off, in a corner in the closet remove a section needed for your repair job. sweep or vac the area, place your double tape down,place your carpet on top and if you have a rolling pin, roll over the carpet to make it lay down and seal to the tape. you can pick up same carpets and replace the one in the closet.

I tried a laundry detergent..but it required alot of extra rinseing../ ..I also tried ammonia..Clear ammonia..and the fumes were really strong.. I used a Spray Bottle--and did small patches../ Now-a-days..I use sectional carpeting.. ..and I have a place in the bath tub..to hang them straight up.. I use PineSOL..I spray them with a plastic bottle sprayer..and I have a hose to connect to the bathroom sink..for rinsing..it takes all week to do all the carpeting--allowing for the dry time../ === You might try Scrubbing Bubbles..bathroom cleaner../ ..there is a slight fume--odor But the cleaning strength is the best.

- We clean our carpets once a year. But if it needs it more often we would clean them. We have children so, sometimes it is necessary to clean them every 6 months. It really depends on what happens in your home. But I would say at least once a year. And, yes, we do rent a machine and do it oursleves. Thanks

- Depends a lot on just how old the carpet is now and the over all quality of the carpet is. If its less than 10 years old and of some quality, a professional will use the proper water temp needed to help rejuvenate the fibers. The fibers are generally heat set and will matt and lay down over time.Professional cleaners use a water temp made to reset the fibers into an up right position.
