- Q: My cat has torn up a couple of sections of the carpet in my apartment. I went to Lowe's hardware and they have the carpet I need in stock. However, I keep getting the runaround about what I need and what I need to know to get what I need. I was told that I need to find out how my carpets are installed. I don't want to ask the apartment people because they will charge me a ridiculous amount of money to fix the situation. I have Shag carpeting in my apartment. I do not know how it's laid onto the floor. Is there a way that I can find that out? Also, is there anything else that I need to know? I haven't found any help regarding this except getting the runaround. Please help a girl out! :)
- I've had to repair construction damaged carpet in several houses - here's how I went at it. Go to a carpet store and ask for carpet tape - a wide version of duct tape. You should be able to get it as single sided or double sided tape. Take a piece of carpeting identical to the carpeting you have to replace, cut it large enough to replace the damaged section, and lay the new piece over the old. Keep in mind that the carpet has a grain or pattern to it, and in some types of carpet the direction of grain is quite pronounced - so make sure you match the direction of the grain to the original carpet. You may find it easiest to cut the carpeting patch from the back side, or use a knife with a blade designed to cut carpeting (see the carpet store again). As best you can, brush the shag pile on the existing carpet away from the line where you intend to cut it - it'll make cutting easier and the pile will hide the patch when the pile is brushed back into place. Hold the patch in place while you cut through damaged carpet, using the patch as a template. If you're uncertain, make the hole in the original carpet a little small and trim the patch to fit. Once the patch fits the hole in the original carpet, use the tape to fasten the patch to the original carpet (and to the floor if two sided). Get the cat de-clawed. ;-) Good luck with it.

- Q: We have very nice new wood floors. I have a rug and I need to put a carpet pad under it. Is there a particular kind of carpet pad I should use? I'm afraid it will damage the wood floors somehow. I bought a carpet pad that is like a rubbery grid, just afraid to use it!
- Carefully, with the flat edge of a screwdriver, lift the staple straight up, and see if it will come up in one move. If it doesn't, carefully lift the edge which will come up, and pull the rest of the staples up with those long thin pliers. They are near the edges of the room, aren't they? Do they have thin boards attached to some ends? We took about two days to do this with a rowhouse in Baltimore, and once we got the hang of the long flat headed screwdriver, and the delicate pliers, we were set to go. We also did have to remove these plywood type rulers set near the corners of the room. Once we polished, the staple marks weren't noticeable at all.
- Q: Is there a not too expensive way to pretreat really bad carpet stains before I use a before I go over the entire carpet with a steamclean pro home machine thanks
- Depends on the stain. Tell me more. Here are a few pointers: 1. Koolaid is taken out by using a steam iron, a PURE WHITE cloth, Ammonia (preferably lemon scented), and a steam Iron. Mix the Ammonia 1to1 with water and pour a small amount on the Kool-Aid stain. Place the white cloth on top of the stain and heat it with the Iron. Repeat as necessary. It is called Heat Transfer, the stain will soak up into the white cloth. If you use a colored cloth, the color from the cloth will soak into the carpet. 2. Urine when it dries turns to alkaline. The way to remove alkaline is with acid. Vinegar is an acid and works well. Also Protein stains like Blood and Urine set when you try to clean them with hot water, so use cold water when cleaning these types of stains. 3. For every 18 degrees of water temperature your soap will clean 100 percent better. Use VERY hot water to clean carpet, just so long as you are below 200 degrees. Thus the reason they call it steam cleaning. 4. Mechanical action (scrubbing) is the best way to clean most stains. Get vicious. 5. Always test any spot remover in a closet to make sure it is not taking out the color of your carpet. 6. Buy powdered water softener in your laundry soap section of the store and use it with your soap, it will make it work far better. 7. Keep it simple Stupid. Regular degreasers and cleaners work well in traffic lanes. Get a cheap pump up sprayer in your garden section of Walmart, add simple green and water, and spray the High traffic areas of your carpet and any spots. This is called a TLC or Traffic Lane Cleaner.
- Q: dream clown - When this card is changed from Attack Position to Defense Position, select and destroy 1 monster on your opponent's side of the field. stumbling -As long as this card remains face-up on the field, any monster that is Normal Summoned, Flip Summoned or Special Summoned successfully is changed to Defense Position. pulling rug-Negate the activation and effect of an Effect Monster whose effect activated when a monster was Normal Summoned (even itself), and destroy that Effect Monster.
- pulling the rug won't work. dream clown's effect works when it's switched from attack to defense position. if stumbling is on the field and you summon dream clown in attack mode, stumbling will switch it in defense mode. since dream clown's effect only activates when it's switched from attack to defense, pulling the rug won't work because it only negates the effect of monsters that activate when normal summoned (monarchs, gadgets, etc.)
- Q: are there any home made recipes i can use for removing stains out of the carpet?thanks.
- It will depend on what the stain is, rubbing alcohol will remove some stains, oxy clean, greased lightening, dawn dish washing soap, penetrate the stain and blot up with old towel until stain lightens this may take several applications, then use a soft bristle brush to scrub, blot up excess moisture and soap rinse well and blot... There are also stain and spot removers that can be purchased but I have found that most don't work as good as they say...all else fails rent a rug doctor!
- Q: My room is pretty small, it's rectangular shaped. My carpet is..disgusting. It's like ugly green color and its stained and I need some ideas on what to do. My mom and I have no money and I need a rather cheap, easy , solution. Any idea?
- Why not take it up and pitch it in the trash! Surely the wood floor beneath is less unsightly and may give you more options later on when you have a little cash to spend...
- Q: I have a candle that dripped wax on a carpet so what is the easiest way to remove it from my carpet?
- Have the same problem right now...take ICE CUBES, get wax as cold as possible, take dull knife (butter knife) and scrape...most of the wax will chip off. Any residual that you cannot get off, take warm iron over paper towel covering wax..the wax will melt into the towl and be removed. Good luck, I have to do this tomorrow.
- Q: I am trying to find a practical solution to carpeting my basement with pets and kids in the house. I was looking at carpet tile because I can just replace a worn or stained piece. Has anyone here used carpet tile? What brand did you buy and how did it hold up? Can this be easily installed or do I need a pro? Any tips?
- Yes, we had a couple small areas that needed carpet so we used that. Ours had rubber backs so we didn't even glue it down. Now they say you have to do some fancy measuring and start in the middle of the floor. I have yet to find a square floor in any house or basement so....that's a bit silly. The reason they tell you to do that tho, is so you can make cuts at the walls instead of the middle. When you buy them there will be instructions and the seller will help. Sorry square means basically this. Measure 2 ft on a corner wall and 3 ft on the adjoining wall, between the two marks measure and it should be 5 ft. (this will be a triangle) My basement was off 2 1/2 inches. This just means you'll have some funky cuts at the end so put them where they won't be seen.
- Q: HI would like you guys opinion. Would an oval rug look good under a rectangular dining room table. Thanks in Advance.
- A rectangular rug would look better under an oval table but you can do the oval rug under the rectangular table, as long as the rug is quite larger than the table... Otherwise, if the rug is too small and the table goes basically to the ends of the rug, the rug will look too small.
