Q:trying to install new amplifier; running cable from battery through firewall to the trunk; done on several cars before; looking for advice or best practices...: if you look under the hood, facing the cars windshield, the far right corner against the firewall, there's a dip in the sheet metal. if you drill there at the lowest point, the hole will come out behind and a little above your brake pedal. run it through there , under the side trim. not only will this seperate power from rca wires (eliminating ground noise) but it will be easy to run. if you want a professional job, take out your seats (all of em) and run it under the carpet, but i'm sure you have to remove the center console. my buddy ran the wire under the car and drilled through the floor and ran it under the rug but that is such a bad idea because if the wire corrodes from weather you will have a fire.

Q:Its on power and one is in a pc monitor and one is lying on the ground. Will the electricity go through the cable that is not connected and lying on the ground? is this safe to touch with hands or shoes?: The voltages and amperages going through the Monitor Cables are too low to be of any concern. If you actually stuck your tongue into a live one you'll get a jolt that may be painful...but it's not going to kill you. Touching it with your fingers won't do anything. However it might not be a bad idea to cover it with a little electrician's tape (don't go crazy) to keep it from picking up anything that could jam or bend the pins.

Q:Hi. I was snaking 40 feet of underground burial power cable thru a PVC conduit. As I did not have any cable pulling lubricant, I used JOY dishwashing liquid detergent as a lube for pulling the cable with a snake. Will that damage or detiorate the outer jacket of the cable it is still in the conduit. The flexible conduit I used is water tight and I have plugged both openings with silicine caulk.: It'll be ok for about 5 years. The chemicals will eat through the outer casing which is more resilient than the inner insulation. Next time, go to Lowe's, Home Depot and purchase some Wire-pulling lubricant.

Q:I was walking through the bush recently and I noticed that there were cable towers separated by a valley. How would they get the cable between the towers when there is a cliff on either side?: From the high point a rope is thrown down. the workers pull this light rope to which a stronger steel wire is attached and then the power carrying wire is attached and pulled carefully over wheels so as not to scar the wire. Lots of sweat and hard work to get it done. and Yes Helicopters are used where they are available.

Q:power supply, however it comes with some cables that can be attached to the peripheral 4 point cable then ran into the card itself. can this setup work? Or will I need a new power supply with 2 6 point pci express power cables? Oh by the way its a 600 watt power supply I currently have.: The addapter to the 4pin molex will work just fine. If your pickie about your computer like I am, then you can purchase a new power supply, but there really isnt any need.

Q:Hey y'all , so I got this LG X120 Netbook thing and although it works fine when power supply cable is connected, it won't play just by getting supply from its own battery..also i tried starting it up with the power cable on, and after a few moments I unplugged it, and the screen went black-I mean the netbook was turned off by itself..any help with that? thanks: It sounds like the problem is one of three things. Either the power cable is the wrong voltage/amperage (these should be labeled on both the charger and the bottom of the laptop and/or battery) If the charger specs don't match the battery specs, it can cause this to happen. Maybe there was a mess-up that caused your to receive the wrong charger. The second possibility is that the battery is bad. A third possibility may be the connection from the battery to the laptop. It may not be making a good connection or could have some internal circuit problems. In any case, if the laptop is still under warranty... I would try returning it. Even if the problem can be fixed from the above suggestions, a problem like this early on tends to be bad news of what lies ahead.

Q:My 4 gauge power cable is hooked up to the battery's positive terminal and the other end to my amplifier's terminal. Is it safe to accidentally touch the ring terminal (end) of this power cable? I won't feel any electrical shock or anything will I?: if you touch the positive terminal with one hand, and any part of the car's frame or engine block with the other with the engine running at idle, you'll complete an electrical circuit that will put about 13 volts right through your chest. With the engine off, it'll be closer to 12.6 volts. Luckily, your body is a poor conductor, with a resistance of around about 200k to 500k ohms (2 - 5 hundred thousand ohms). Less if you're sweaty. At least, that's my resistance. That means you have about .026 milliamps (13 volts divided by 500k ohms x 1000) of electrical current running through your heart. But don't worry, that's a fraction of what it would take for you to even notice it. Of course, if you have an implanted pacemaker, all bets are off.
