Q: Need to figure out what our max budget needs to be for new carpet for about 900 sf.
I you were to walk into my carpet store you would see that prices fall anywhere between $3sf up to 10$ for most pieces. I would say the average installed price with a good quality pad and lifetime installation warranty would be around $5-$6.
Q: why does the floor carpet start showing some wrinkles? too old?
As carpet gets old, people drag their feet over the carpet, move furniture, etc. and the fabric of the carpet just gets stretched out. If it's not stained, for relatively little cost you can have someone come in an restretch it using a kicker to reinstall. However if the carpet is too old or stained, you may want to consider replacing it.
Q: My carpets are heavyly stained, i have shampooed them using bleach, but the resalt i want is to bleach them as close to white, or clean i can get . Ihave to small children in the house to think about too! Any suggestions on how to clean the carpet myself, within a day would be great!
I would be very leary of using bleach on carpet. First of all, most carpet has manmade fiber ( nylon or polypropelene, for example) which will melt if bleach hits it. Second, the padding underneath is generally a recycled material that wil disintegrate when the bleach hits it. Third, carpet fiber is held together with a stiff substance that looks a lot like burlap to which the carpet fiber is looped and glued. Bleach will cause the glue to release its adherence over time. Now if your carpet is Olefin, it can take bleach without any of these consequences occurring. But in the final anaylsis, you have small children and bleach is caustic. I would be afraid of having bleach sink down into the padding and having it walk back up to the surface where it could harm or worse yet, poision your children. If you are looking to both brighten the carpet and remove the stains there are many cleaners you can use in a rental steam machine that will do the job, but won't whiten the carpet. You can even use oxyclean diluted in the machine or straight to remove the stains as a pre-spotter. Capture, Resolve, Nature's Miracle and Tech all make heavy duty cleaners that can be loaded into a steam cleaner. Folex found at home depot can brighten and remove most stains with little effort, too.
Q: I have an ajoining living room and dinning room, should the area rug in the living room match the area rug in my dinning room?
No. They should contrast one another.
Q: I have a large family room - 25 x 16 feet. I currently have a 9x12 rug on one side and want to add another on the other side of the room. The rug that works best with my existing rug only comes in 5'8x9 or 8'8x10. The first seems a little small and the second a little big. Can you have two large rugs in one room or does that overpower the room? I would only have about 14 between the two rugs if I went with the larger rug. It seems like it would look like a little landing strip. But I don't want the small one to look like a postage stamp. What to do?
It depends on what you are going to put on it. You could turn the other rug so they won't be so close together.
Q: If I lay down a lot of rugs in my apartment (I AM ON THE 3rd FLOOR SO I HAVE SOMEONE UNDER ME). No complaints as of yet but I want to turn it up a bit will laying out alot of rugs help or not? If you have a better idea please help!THANKS!
Generally, refinishers charge $4 to $5 a square foot to sand and refinish hardwood floors, more if they add multiple coats of sealer. I would recommend against laying tile down over hardwood without taking it up first. A tile floor should have an underlayment of 1/2-inch hardibacker and a float (1/4-inch or so) of leveling compound before laying the tiles. This provides a good, solid surface that won't flex (tiles and grout won't crack from walking on it). Tile will run you about $5 to $6 a square foot for installation. This doesn't include the cost of the tile itself or the removal of the old floorboards, though. Good ceramic tile will run at least $4 a square foot.
Q: I'm thinking of buying new carpet for my bedroom, the type that interest me has no attached backing. Is it okay to purchase carpet with out attached backing or am I getting scammed?
Installing new carpet can be a hassle, especially if you are using carpet that requires a separate layer of padding. Instead, you can save time by purchasing foam-backed carpet that comes complete with the padding. The backing is not as thick as traditional foam padding, so the carpet will need to be replaced every few years if it is subject to a lot of foot traffic.
Q: I have a new apartment with wood floors and need to soften up part of it for sitting, yoga, stuff like this. I love Persian rugs but can't afford one. I'm wondering, what about an area rug that is basically carpet you would find in somebody's house... only not installed or glued to the floor. Just a roll of carpet. I don't know the terminology. This doesn't have to be fancy. What is the best way to go about getting such a thing? Do carpet stores have surplus carpeting laying around if you don't particularly care about style or size? Thanks for any replies.

Q: I have talked to 4 companies about re-carpeting our home and all they can do is dog on other companies and say how they are the best. They all give contradicting advice. One guy said, quot;Stainmaster is just branding, use our r2x, it's better and cheaper.quot; One guy said quot;R2x, stain master... all a scam. All carpet is stain resistant these days.quot; And another guy said, quot;Stainmaster is the best!quot; We want a plush carpet that is stain resistant (we have a small dog). I don't care about having the best as I am carpeting my first home and won't be here forever. I also cannot find objective reviews on carpet brands. Why is this? I am starting to realize that the carpet industry is a very competitive business and how do I know that I am getting a quality product.
Stain Master is just a name. You pay a bit more for Stain Master because they advertise on T V .Almost all stain blockers are the same. They cover the same types of stains and you treat them the same. Like any product ,carpet is a competitive market so you will get competition. What you have to do is compare carpets from one place to another. Compare warranties, the weight of the carpet and the wear warranties. Once you compare apples to apples only you can get a fair judgment. Compare installation costs, is furniture moving and rip out of the old included? See in the installers are certified. This may cost a bit more but worth it. Non certified installers can some times void warranties. Not all carpets have stain blockers , most do but not all. Take all warranties with a grain of salt. This is always based on a pro rated system. Carpets will lose a bit every year. I myself preferred Mohawk. They stood behind their product, Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar. GL
Q: can i use ammonia and vinegar in a carpet machine?
If you're asking if they'll work as part of the cleaning solutions for the actual carpet, then no, they aren't good for that application...
