Q:I'm on a tight budget, so I can't afford an area rug. But I'd like one in a half-moon shape with my bed on top. Would there be any problems making a sort of decorative-rug out of fabric from someplace like Jo-annes? Just sew and go, right?And if there's not some glaring oversight I'm missing in that idea, what sort of fabric? Upholstery? Outdoors? Quilting?: Check used items ads in your area for quilting fabrics, rugs. Also, Habitat for Humanity ReStores is a good source. Good Luck

Q:Hi all i burnt the carpet and if our landlord see's it i am done for, is there anything i could do to make it look better,thanks: If it's only the very top part of the nap in the carpet, you can try snipping off the burned parts. Trim around the area somewhat as well, so the snipped dip in the carpet isn't as obvious. If it's too deep to cut, but only a small area (smaller than a quarter) and/or out of the usual area, you can try painting it over. Match the color, paint the spot, and then clear-paint it over to seal it. If it's bigger than that AND deep, um , area rug?

Q:Are rugs supposed to more or less engulf a room and be under the legs of your furniture (in our case that would be the 8X10), or are they used more as accents rugs in front of couches and chairs, not actually touching the furniture but filling the empty space....hence the 5X8?Or are there no rules and anything goes in the world of rugs?Also, any suggestions for selecting a pattern are welcome. Our chairs are neutral, but the couch has a strong leaf with some floral pattern to it, and in addition to struggling with size and colors to match it, we're also having problems with pattern on pattern. If it uses Stainmaster yarn, then you will have a great carpet. A 1/2 8lb pad really isn't necessary; a 1/2 6lb pad would do just fine. It all depends on your living situation: is there a lot of people living there? If so, a heavier pad would help with the wear and tear of the carpet. If it is just you or you and one other person,the lighter pad would do just fine.

I sold vacuums for a while and went to someone's house to do a demo. They did not even own a vacuum, and hadn't vacuumed their carpet since installing it...they were just using a carpet flicker type of device.....when I did the demo and showed them what was coming out of their carpet it was shedding, so to speak.
