- Q: I inherited two fairly large Moroccan rugs, hand made, that my parents purchased years ago in Marrakesh. What is the best way for me to sell these at a good price? I'm honestly not willing to put in that much time.
- You're not going to get much, considering that OKorder is loaded with Persian carpets. I would put them in storage, but first call a rug dealer to see what you must do first, in order to store them. (Probably cleaning and moth-proofing) They may even take them on consignment. If I were you, I would hang on to them. I have purchased a lot of persian wool, handmade rugs, and they are so beautiful, and look so classy.
- Q: I keep pads under my Oriental rugs. I bought rubber backed pads for all of them but I noticed that it's disintegrating - turning into a fine powder. Has anyone had any experience with better pads and can recommend something better?Thank you.
- Pads are must for rugs whether its an oriental rug or some other rug. It increase the life of rug.
- Q: how do I find out how much its worth?
- What are commonly known as persian rugs are actually made in wide ranging locales in eastern Europe, Asia, and the Indian subcontinent. You might do a Yahoo search for persian rugs and get lucky enough to identify the pattern of your rug, but it will take the eye of an expert to give you definitive information. Best bet is to take your rug to a reputable rug dealer in your area. They will be able to identify the rug, determine age and origin, assess condition, recommend cleaning and preservation, and assess its' value. Good luck with your search for information.
- Q: I have a smallish (3ft by 5ft) area rug that needs to be cleaned. It's not worth enough to pay a cleaner and I have hardwood floors so I'm not trying to rent a steam cleaner. I was thinking about using a clothes line between two trees and hosing it down real well with a pressurized garden hose... I have tried vacuuming and quot;beatingquot; the rug with a stick, but there is a dingy coloration that I think needs water/washing to get it looking nice. I wasn't going to use any detergents, just water and a scrub brush then let it air dry for a day or so. Does this seem like at least a semi-good idea? I'll sooner throw the rug out and spend money on a new one than spend money cleaning this one. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
- Most rugs can be washed in the washing machine... ld water, liquid laundry detergent, no fabric softener. Then hang the rug to air dry. Machine drying can destroy a rug. If your rug is plush and appears matted after it dries, toss it in the dryer on No Heat or Fluff and run the dryer for about 20 minutes. This will fluff the rug back up without destroying the rug with heat.
- Q: 1600*800 what size carpet is appropriate below the tea table?
- Carpet size should be determined by the size of the sofa, irrelevant to the tea table. In principle, it's as big as the virtual box occupied by the sofa, but move away from the TV, not all under the sofa. Just bigger than the coffee table is not, but the problem is easy to sit on the sofa when you sit on the edge, easy to edge.
- Q: Hi! Were purchasing new carpet for our mobile home. They sell a pad to for an extra cost. Never bought carpet before. Is the pad something we really need? Thank you
- Yes, you need new pad. Think of carpet pad as the foundation for your carpet....the stronger the foundation, the more durable what's above it. The better the pad, the longer your carpet will last. You can put an inexpensive carpet on a good pad, and have the carpet last longer than an expensive carpet on a cheap pad. I usually recommend and 8 pound 7/16 pad, but if money is tight, don't go with anything less than a 6 pound 7/16.
- Q: I have carpet beetles. Will carpet cleaning kill them? If not, what should I do to get rid of them that is pet friendly.
- I have had a major problem with black and variated carpet beetles and no matter what I did, they kept coming back! I don't want to buy bug spray because I have a 6 month old boy. Recently I went on a whim and started spraying down the baseboards with colgate pro health mouth wash since someone told me it works for bugs and then I did an experiment. I found a beetle escaping running across the kitchen floor so I sprayed him and he was running, running, running then fell over dead! I decided to add some lavender oil drops to the mix to make it smell nice. Then, I was cleaning the bedroom and I had found a carpet beetle larvae out of its hiding spot so I took it and put it into an empty container and sprayed it with mouth wash and took it out right away on a dry piece of paper and only after a few seconds, it was dead. Try mouth wash. So far it seems to be an effective way of killing them- all life stages. Since the stuff doesnt have alcohol and if you spray the baseboards only, it shouldn't be a problem as long as you don't make a pool of it.
- Q: I recently bought quot;Natures Best: Urine Destroyerquot; from petsmart amp; the worker that helped me said I could use in it my carpet cleaner. I haven t used it yet, but has anyone ever used it in their carpet cleaner or know if it ll mess it up? Thanks!
- Don't use it in your carpet cleaner. The sales associate is clueless. Nature's Best is an enzyme destroyer. It's used to pull animal urine out of carpets and underlay. To work properly, the product is applied LIBERALLY to the area, using enough to completely soak the carpet and underlay all the way down to the subfloor. As it dries, it pulls the ammonia from the urine out of the carpet and carpet pad. Most carpet cleaners do not spray enough liquid to totally soak through the carpet AND underlay. And the enzymes work as they dry.. It's a waste of money to suck up all of the product you just put on the carpet to clean out the odor. I'd suggest using Nature's Miracle first. After a few days, when the product has finished working and there is no more odor, steam clean your carpets as you normally would to clean them.
- Q: I used to have a cat, but haven't since I bought a house and completely remodeled it. Now the house is done, and I'd like to get a cat again. I don't like the idea of de-clawing - I think it's cruel. But, I now have expensive furniture in the house and also 2 very expensive antique persian rugs. How is a clawed cat trained not to scratch/claw these things. I've always had problems in the past with this.
- I got 2 cats. And they both know how to use da scathing post.all u got 2 do is show it 2 them. After a while they'll know not 2 scracth the rugs but the scratching post.
- Q: i have two cats thats hate being locked out of my room and when they are they scratch at the carpet so now there is a bald spot under the door.is there any way i can fix this without replacing the carpet on the whole floor?
- The size of the iron makes bigger pieces easier to attach; somewhere at least 12 inches by 12 inches is easy, but smaller is trickier.
