- Q: I have a massive rug on my floor carpet. We have it because our carpet is maroon and carpet is brighter so during the day and night, the room doesn't look that dark. The problem i am facing is that my rug is sliding/moving (slowly) towards the way we walk. I have tried the Rug Tape that we stick under the rug to give it grip, that did not work.I am wondering what other solutions maybe. I will only Screw my rug to the carpet/floor if that is my only option. Every week, we have to move the swing (indoor), the heavy sofa, bird cage (we have pets) and other furniture to actually fix it and it takes a lot of time. I need multiple options if possible, but hopefully some of you may have had this and found a great solution for it. I am willing to spend money to get this problem Fixed. - I had this problem with a runner over a carpet. I bought a plastic runner that had teeth on the underside. These teeth sunk into the pile of the carpeting. On top of that plastic runner, I placed an inexpensive non slip rug pad the size of the runner and then placed my carpet runner over it. My carpet runner has not slipped or shifted over the wall to wall carpeting. Perhaps you could do this with strips of the plastic runner along the perimeter of the area rug?

- First cheapest way. Warm water and white vinegar 50/50 solution. You want to dilute the stain not drown the area 4 beyond the spot. This lifts dirt, grime stains. It will not harm the cheapo carpet. If this is a long time stain from furniture or ink, food, or who knows then you may want to try an Oxy or Resolvebased cleaning product. IMPORTANT. Test the cleaner in a patch of carpet in you closet if it has carpet to see if a big lightening/discoloring of the carpet occurs. The labeling on the can will tell you something like this. The biggest issue that move-er-outers face is spot clean if leaves clean carpet spots that highlight the dirty rest of the carpet. - Q: Ok so i want to get new carpet in my basement and on the Home Depot website it says that youcan get any size carpet for only $139, but idk if this includes taking the old carpet out. If not, then how would i do that, and/or how much will it cost???
- The ad is to install the carpet, not purchase. You'd have to ask Home Depot if the install also includes removal and haul away. It may not for a special deal. Removal can be fairly easy if the carpet was not glued to the floor. The easy way is to peel back a corner. Tack strips are thin slat with grippers nailed to the floor that have spikes on the top to grip the carpet. Once you get it off once section, the carpet is easily taken up. However, get a carpet knife and cut them into sections for easier handling. Often the carpet is NOT under the baseboard, but right at the bottom. Letting a putty knife or screw driver under there will probably loosen it. Remove the carpet and the pad.......pads are cheap and you want a fresh clean start. If the carpet is glued down.......well, you'll need a heavy duty flat scraper and start scraping. You'll also need a carpet glue solvent and plenty of open windows...at least. You may need breathing protection, getting the birds out of the house, etc.

- Changing the carpet is the easy part. Removing all that's holding it in is the hard part. You can google for automotive carpet and order it online. You can expect to pay 120-175 bucks for a carpet depending on who you order it from. (Try JC Whitney) Order the carpet that comes with the padding attached to it. Once you get the carpet, the hard part begins. Take the seats out, and unbolt the seat belts from the floor. Remove the center console and any trim around the edges such as the sill plates that hold the carpet in. Take care in any wiring you encounter, remember where it is. Once everything holding down the edges of the carpet have been removed, the carpet comes out pretty easy. Vacuum up any loose debris then install the new carpet with padding and put everything back in that you took out. An experienced installer would take 3-4 hours since the center console is the hardest part. If you have never attempted this before, expect a full day at best, probably two to complete the job. No other materials are needed unless there are pieces of carpet that are glued to the kick panels in the front. Then a can of 3M spray adhesive would cover that.
