- Not to take away from JFK jr's piloting skills but the possibility exists that he failed to check to see if the fuel valve was on in the first place. I do not know how far along in the flight he was, but a typical piston engine plane can get you up and on your way with the fuel that is in the fuel system. Why I know this, my flight instructor while training one of his students died in a forced landing due to engine failure because the fuel valve was not turned on. My flight instructor would allow his students to perform the preflight on there on, of course after many hours of dual training. The plane was a piper four place, it made it to about 400 feet agl before the engine stalled from fuel starvation. The irony of his death was from complications on the operating table from a broken ankle and a blood clot that broke loose. Checking for the on position of the fuel valve is on the check list. During emergency landing procedures, one of the functions is to turn the fuel valve off to reduce the possibily of fire. This doesn't answer the question but is a possibility unless of course he was well into his flight before the accident, in which case he probably moved the fuel valve to the off position following emergency procedures.

- I'm sorry but your best bet is to get a friend or a plumber, you stated before you didn't have much $$ but if you don't fix this it will lead to more $$$. If you can find another shut off valve to turn off the water leading to your kitchen you should this way you can use your other water sources like toilet and shower until you can decide what your going to do. As I said before your going to need a torch and other things that I thing you should leave to a professional.

- OK well first, cc stands for cubic centimeters, and they measure the displacement within the cylinder of your engine. Basically, the more cc's the bigger the engine. HP is horsepower and generally the more cc's the more horsepower, altho that is not always true, especially if you turbocharge or supercharge and engine. Also, some manufacturers are able to engineer their engines better than others, thus producing more horsepower out of a smaller (less cc) engine. Finally, valves are like little doors in your cylinder. They open and let in the air and fuel, the engine burns the fuel, and then other ones open and let out the exhaust. Some manufacturers put 2 or 3 or 4 of these doors in each cylinder, with the intention of getting the gas in and exhaust out faster, thus producing more horsepower in some applications. A 16 valve engine will generally be a 4 cylinder engine with 4 valves per cylinder, it is a common engine setup. If you still have questions, wikipedia is your friend.

- Q: Can anyone tell me what to do if i know that I have the type of valve stem that was recalled TR413chrome?? Will they replace them for free since they are a recall or do I have to dish out some more $$ to fix the problem??? The company that sold them to me is in Florida (Wheelmax) and I am in Mass. Not sure what to do to avoid having to pay out more $$ to have them replaced...any help is greatly appreciated
- well really they should dont see the big deal they are like a buck each... and will take ten minutes to fix.. at any shop some places might cost you 10 to 20 bucks.. and yes if there is a recall on valve stems im sure they would redo them for free... . ive never heard of one been doing tires over 20 yrs.... rubbber gets old and dry about as fast as the tires wear out

- Could be.. Also could be dirty. Easy fix, remove the valve and spray carb cleaner in the hole.. Using a small brush, clean the bore that the valve rides up and down in. Also, inspect the valve while it is off the manifold. Harder fix: After cleaning the bore, replace valve with brand new one. Your car will have to relearn the idle after starting with the new valve or after you put the old one back in.. - Q: i have an old 79 malibu and its only got a 267 in it. I wouldnt buy new valve covers because its not worth it to me but i was thinking i could clean the ones i got up a little bit. i was thinking of painting them. What kind of paint should i use? and one other thing is the gaskets. I figure while i have them pulled off i should put new gaskets on. I read up about getting all the old stuff off but i was curious still about it. I was just looking at some average ones made of cork for 10 bucks. Do i lay the sealer downthen put the gasket on , then put the valve cover on?
- just paint the valve covers ..high temp heat resistant paint... don't go with the cork gaskets ...use permetex silicone 3 bucks a tube and easier to work with
