- Q: was told by a Toyota Service that this would only be 1 hour more labor and cost me about 140 dollars more..and that they always recommend it being done same time as timing belt and water pump replacement....but is really a good idea or not? The OI OIL PUMP SEAL would be LEAKING BADLY by now, and it is BEST not to disturb it, if it was NOT LEAKING! Many times they DAMAGE the SEAL housing and cause MORE trouble than it is WORTH! Use the RIGHT type of SYNTHETIC OIL at oil change time with the TOYOTA approval spec numbers printed on the LABEL! I would clean your THROTTLE BODY and IDLE AIR CONTROL valve instead! UUSUALLY, they want you to replace the CAM seals and NOT the oil pump seals WEIRD! - Well the logic is that since you only need to replace the timing belt every 60,000 miles, then you might as well change the water pump, should it fail in between you would end up having to do nearly the same job all over again. always change the water pump if it is driven by the timing belt. That is purely a rule of the trade.
- Q: I think my water pump has crapped out on my 1997 Jeep Cherokee. I have been leaking coolant for a few days now and there is a puddle under my Jeep after I turn it off and my reserve tank keeps emptying out on me. - Q: We had a thunderstorm followed by power outage last night, this morning I went to use the water and it slowly went dead.I began by inspecting the pressure tank and pressure control switch, then found the outside water pump breaker was tripped, upon resetting the water was back on!But wait, after about 1-2 minutes of use there was a small quot;POPand smoke from the control switch and the breaker tripped again. It seems now that every time the water pump kicks in I've got a 50/50 shot of the circuit breaker blowing. I'm not sure what to do now, I don't want to keep resetting my pump breaker, we really didn't get that much rain so I don't know what would be causing this issue?Any help would be greatly appreciated.Thanks!
